order for building box
so, i am in the process of building a box for my subs (project for school, or else i woulda just bought one), and was wondering what order should i do the following things. i have the peices cut and such and are put together. the top i can take off still tho.
my question is, i still need to put the cup terminals, carpet, sealing stuff on the inside, and the subs. what order should i put those on in? and what type of sealing agent should i use on the inside of the box?
thanks for the info

First you would want to seal it. Then cut your hole(s) for your terminals. Then skin it and cut out where the subs and terminals would go in an X fashion and tack them out of the way. Drop your subs in and wires for hookup (use a solder joint if possible - less chance of loose connections).
By the way - that is a BIG sub enclosure. How many cubic ft? What subs you puttin' in there? Just curious................

its an enclosure for two 10" subs. Kenwood 2505. asked for 1.1 cubic feet per sub. its actually a dual chamber, so each chamber is approximately 1.1 cubic feet, but i fergot to take into account the displacement of the sub itself, so its gonna be a little under.
what type of sealing agent should i use on the inside of the box? wood glue, silicone, etc? i dunno anything about building sub enclosures. thanks for the info.

Actually...when building a box like that the bottom is the last
piece to go on. That way you can properly seal the top where the subs go
and reach in through the woofer cutouts to seal the bottom.
Glue and screwed is the best....liquid nails works..but has to be fully cured
(it does give off a highly combustible fumes when curring...can you say boom)
before subs are installed...the same with silicon or laytex ( some subs surrounds
are prone to failure if exposed to the fumes,,,no different than us
)
have fun

if its going to be under the cu. ft. you want , get some polyfil and put a pound to every cu. ft. in the enclosure, so get a pound and put it in each, it should smooth out the response a little.

the only type of bracing i have is the divider in the middle. and when i say seal the box, i mean where all the pieces of wood come together, so all edges and corners. and you say the back is the last piece that should be put on? crap, cuz the front is the only piece i can take on and off, cuz all the other pieces are attached through an air gun using small little nails. o well, i guess it will have to work.
so i'll go to home depot and get some silicon caulking stuff for the inside of the box to seal it. i'll also look into getting polyfil. is that wat damping(sp?) material is?

to liquid nails and drywall screws. Do you have any type of bracing other than the divider?
