my first system, need help
i have a 91 crx si that i want to get more bass out of. i have to clue about all this sound stuff. im not looking to be crazy loud or make my car shake bad, i just want a good bass sound. some friends have told me two 10's would sound good nut i have no clue. i also need to know what amps to run with it so it all sounds good. im not looking at spending much money. the sound is not my main concern, the engine and body is. so if some one could tell me everything i need and where to get it, FOR CHEEP. id like to stick with Best Buy and Wall-mart if i can. thanks for the help. please dont give me a set up that takes my whole trunk space. i need some room in my trunk
like fcm said a small 10" sub goes far in a crx. If you want loud and boomy go with a ported box that is made to the specs of the sub. If you listen to rock and want a tighter bass go with a sealed box again made to the specs of the sub. Dont just throw a 10" sub in a 10" box get something that is made for the sub.
On all the equipment stick with a good brand. If you havent heard of it or it is just is and looks cheap its going to sound cheap. With car audio 95% of the time you get what you pay for.
An amplifier for the sub: get an amp that matches the subs rms rating and impedence (ohm load). make sure you get wiring that is adequate for the amp. stay away from walmart wiring its cheap in price for a reason.
you could easily throw in a sub box and amp and wires and call it a day for around $400 for actually decent equipment. just stay with good brands.

op we need to know budget and musical taste.
a good 10 in the right box will be plenty.
even a single 8 would be good
speaking of crx... check out KRock459's setup.... its beautiful..

focal midbass, dynaudio mid range, dynaudio tweeters, another focal 6.5 in the rear and diamond audio 10 sub(guessing he replaced the jl..) and that was in may god knows what he have now :D

Why because the old carpet is starting to come off ? The box sits inside of a tire that gets pulled in and out of my hatch. Who cares what the carpet looks like when it's covered by a false floor? It sounds great and that's it's purpose not to look good when i don't even see it. lol

like others have said even a single 8" if used the the correct box with a decent amp will blurr your vision when the bass hits and take up less space. the JL 8w7 or solobaric 8 both have a lot of output for their size. my favorite cheap amps right now are the phoenix gold xenon's, they are a great SQ amp with *****. a 400.1 or 600.1 on the sub and 100.2 on your highs would slam in a crx. the higher end mb quart, jl; or focal gear all would be good choices. if you go less expensive the JL VR stuff still sounds great as does the phoenix xenon mids and tweets but they are very difficult to find since they often sell around 100-150 a set
