Default Kill Switch on Fuel pump question!!!!

I have put a fuel pump kill switch. All i did was cut the yellow and black wire and got a 25 amp switch from radio shack and connected the fuel pump with those wires. You think that 25 amp switch will hold it. I have been using if for about 2 weeks with no problems but today my brothers switch went out on him. I just have a stock feul pump and he has an aftermakrket. What do u guys think i should do? put a relay in or what?

it's is always recommened to use a relay even so your using a high amp switch. the relay is built to handle the ark inside much better unlike the switch.

yeap, plus two other things. Make sure your switch is rated 25 amps DC, not AC. Switchs can handle a higher AC voltage and amps than they can DC. Most larger relays though can handle 40+ amps @ 12 volts.

I have a questions about this myself: would the relay go between the pump/switch or firewall/switch? Any one have a part number for a relay that's worked for them?

I just wired up a 20amp toggle switch to my fuel pump power line last week. It was really simple. No problems so far but Im just afraid that the switch might burn out like it has to alot of people on this board. Does anyone know what causes the switch to burn out? Whats the longest youve had just a switch wired in without it burning out?

like previously mentioned, make sure its rate 20amp dc, if its ac that would be a good reason why it could burn out.
