I hate kenwood. Dies on me just after 1 year of use.

my buddy just picked up a 9835....seems really hard to tune and get it right....hes got 2 12 mtx 6000s and he has to turn it up to like 18....and the display unit they had at the audio store was hooked up to a w7 and when you turned it to like vol. 4 it pounded..i donno

You don't want it to do that at 4!!! It goes up to 35 (??). If it's unbearably loud at 18 then turn down the sensitivity on the amps.

to set the gain's by ear: turn the hu up 3/4 vol in your case 26/27. turn the gain one notch below audible distortion. the 9835's sweet spot is around 18-23 where it supplies the right amount of power. regarding the w7, the gain prolly was turned WAY up at vol 4.
