Alpine.... The Old vs. The New
I have an alpine cda-7894 and it has always worked good for me. However I want to upgrade to something that I can interface my ipod with and mine is just a little too old for that unless I just hook it up normally without all the new fancy controls. The thing is that the new ones seem to lack power and features. I was lookin at the cda-9851, 9853 and 9855. All of these units have an RMS of 18w to my current 27w and a peak of 50w to my peak of 60w. Also on the 9851 and 9853 the preamp output is only 2v and mine is 4v. Am I going to lose sound quality if I get one of these new units because I don't plan on buying an amp for my regular speakers. What is the difference between the 2v and 4v preamp outs? Should I even spend the money on a new unit or just get an ipod interface off ebay and say the hell with contolling it form the cd player.
If your not going to use an amp then the preamp outputs will make no diff. at all.
As for the power output, it would have to be 1/2 of your unit for you to be able to tell.

i have a CDA-7893 and the laser is starting to go out. so i went to my local shop to look at new Alpine headunits only to find out they dropped Alpine because their quality fell way off when they went mainstream. So now i'm looking into Eclipse, mainly the CD5415.
