Default Installing Tweeters (Advice Needed)

Hello All

I am interested in installing tweeters in my 1995 4DR SE.

How hard would it be? and would it be better to mount them onto my door pannel or near the mirror were the triangle's are.

Please let me know and if you suggest any tweeter components just link me to them and I'll take a look.

thanks again

When adding anything more than 4 speakers to a car you need some sort of amplifer.

Or if you are planning on doing a Ghetto jobber, and bridging the tweeters off regualar speaker wires make sure to use break blockers.

Acidcrakker (12:49 AM 3/30/2008): http://www.lafayetteradio.com/...=1303
What they do is block low decibals from entering your speakers. Bass on tweeters will destory your tweeters.

Tweeters are only made for high decibles, like 80 and above

Bass is like 60 and below.

Not sure if their systems are called decibles, or what I forget, but what ever it is, it starts from 0 being the lowest tone, and goes up to like 140 being the highest tone.

Tweeters are desgined to only handle higher end tones up towards 140. Low ones will only destory them.

Although Acidcrakker is kind of right he is not using the right "terminology" and he is not correct on some things.

Yes you can add tweeters to an existing system.
Yes you can add tweeters without adding an amp.
Yes adding tweeters will add "load" to existing amp.
Yes tweeters need x-overs or bass blockers, ["break blockers."] is what I assume he means.
No you can not cross a tweeter over at 80Hz, [a frequency not a dB] it will destroy a tweeter just as fast as 60Hz will, you would cross it over at 5000Hz or higher.

The frequency range that we can hear in is between 20hZ, [very low] to 20,000Hz, [very high] generally subs are crossed over at 100Hz, [low-pass] or lower, mid-range is crossed over between 100Hz and 5000Hz, [band-pass] and tweeters are crossed over at 5000Hz, [high-pass] or higher.

dB or decibels is a measurement of SPL, [sound pressure level].

If all you are doing is adding a tweeter to and existing system, [paralleling with a woofer/mid-range] pretty much what the stock Honda/Acura 2way component systems are, then just buy an "add on" tweeter, it will have the x-over already attatched on the tweeter or "in-line" on the tweeters speaker leads.

If you get tweeters without x-overs you will need to add them, but they can be as simple as a small capacitor on the tweeters pos.(+) terminal.

The x-over frequency you use will depend on the speaker, [tweeter] you get.
Getting "add on" tweeters with x-overs solves the problem of what x-over point to use.

With all the above said, just adding a set of tweeters may not solve your problem and can cause others, why is it that you are wanting to add tweeters? 94

Get components.

Yes, mounting them can be hazardous to your car. If it's your first time, you should get some junkyard door panels to practice on. Otherwise you're going to do something that you will regret for the life of the vehicle, and again when you try to sell the vehicle. Then the new owner is going to regret it. When it ends up in the junkyard, scavengers like me are going to regret it. And ask "why god why do people do this to these cars?".

Also be sure to get the proper tools. Get some hole saws. Cut the vinyl with a razor before drilling. Measure three times EACH SIDE. Triple check for clearance with the door panels snapped back into place. Run the wires through the factory grommet (this will be the most difficult pat of the install).
