speaker monuting depth
One of you recommended Infinity Kappas for my 2001 civic. I checked them out and agree. However, the Kappa 6-1/2 speakers i need say they are 2-3/16 deep, while the specs for mounting depth for my civic say 2-1/8. Do you think a 1/16th of an inch will matter, or does the speaker need to have like a full 1/4" or so of clearance? I suppose they would be wedged up against the outer door wall?
Thanks.....
Thanks.....

if ur talking about mounting depth, and the speakers r deeper than ur stock mounting depth, i would suggest kick panels. if u wanna be ghetto take the mounting frame off and make some with wood. cut an O out of wood and replace the stock speaker mount, use dynamat around it. that should be good enough unless ur an audiophile freak. if u need help let me know, im in pasadena, which isnt too far from u.
Thanks, but i just wanna throw some speakers in w/o any mods. If the Kappas won't fit i just need to find something good that will.....

When the spacers are added the magnets don't go as far into the door. This does cause the speaker to stick out more. Most of the time there is room under the stock grills though.

Did you make those spacers out of wood? Looks like a bit of work, eh? Maybe i'll just have em installed.
But if i do install em myself, i'm no longer sure i'll need spacers for the Infinitys i want. I found a page on thier site where you can enter your car and it tells you what Infinitys will fit. The ones i want supposedly do. And while i read elsewhere that there was only 2-1/8 depth on the 2001 civic, the Infinity site says its something like 3-1/2 !!! I think i'll choose to believe them.

Id suggest checking with more sources, like HT and crutchfield. Dont believe just one source because its better for you because youll still have to do the work if they are wrong.

If not found there, go to car audio install places and they should have some.

How did you get that tweeter in there? Hot glue, or is there some mount that works with the holder.
I love the ghetto mdf spacers. I used to always end up making them with left over sub box materials

I love them too, put I think I want to paint them, and screw them a lot (make them look like swiss cheese). Weight reduction!
nice install. Do you have issues with your cones hitting the door panel? I do with my 6 1/2's and I used 3/4" mdf, but this is in a Civic. Maybe you have more room.
p.s. Crutchfield has 2 sets of speakers that fit Civics without mods. Pioneers and something else, I can't remember. They should be ok if your running them off of your headunit.
