I can't comment on the Alpines. I have no experience with them.

Frequency: that range at which your speaker can accurately reproduce audio. 20 hz to 20khz= 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz is the normal range. Although the human ear is only good from about 40-14k.
DB: Decibels, a means of measure sound volume.
Watts: The nominal or maximum amount of power(wattage) needed for this speakers optimum performance.
Sensitiviy: The db produced by said speaker with 1 watt of power measured at 1 meter distance.
Does that help?

Forget the numbers, just go out and buy a set of speakers that you've heard and liked.
Listen to the salespeople. Try to distinguish the brands that they're trying to push. Usually, money = better sounding equipment. But there are a lot of products out there with low prices, that sound awesome.
Stick to reputable brands. Infiniti, Alpine, Boston Acoustic, JL, Kicker, MB Quart, etc. Newer brands may be just as good or better but there's nothing like having the assurance that your company's been making great products for years and years.

i figured in the end i would basically jus being going by what i hear is good (hear as in the speaker, not rumors) but you know, it never hurts to know a few facts about audio and all that before you buy. thanks!
