Infinity Vs. MB Quartz
I have a subwoofer question for all of you, Id appreciate some help.
I have a 2dr honda accord. I am looking for a subwoofer that delivers deep, clean, crisp bass that is not boomy. Do I go for Infinity, MB Quartz, IDQ, or Kicker?
I personally have not heard what MB Quartz or IDQ sound like?
What amp would you recommend among the name brands?
Thx.

You want clean, tight and accurate sub bass?
Then have a look/listen to the JL Audio product, subs and slash series amps... http://www.jlaudio.com/

Well you basiclly descriced the IDQ. Total SQ sub and it has some "boom" but not sloppy bass.A sealed enclosure w/about 0.9cf would sound sweet and save alot of space and weight. I have a friend with an imfinity fub and its nice but I like the IDQ way better!!!

The boom is going to be on what kind of enclosure the sub is put in and the setup of the x-over too.
nice thx for the advice, i appreciate it.
I was thinking of going with Alpine for amp, would that brand be a decent beginner for me or should i match the sub?
I have the Alpine CDA-9885 and it is sweet.

The Alpine mono block sub amps are pretty good, just make sure you match the subs continuous power handling, [often called RMS] to the amps RMS power.

also try to get one of Alpines class-D amps. especially if you are using it to drive a sub.you might want to get a capacitor as well.you should have about 1.5 farad for every sub you powering.so if you are powering two subs you should get a 3 farad capacitor.

Not true, Its off of rms power that you using. If its a sub I try to use a fared for ever 500 watts rms. Most of the time its one for every 1k

my bad i couldnt remember.i just looked in my book and your right.its not bad to have a little more though.also if he plans on upgrading he wont have to purchase a new capacitor.
also choose one with a working voltage rating of 20 volts.anything less is risky, and anything more is a waste of money.

thx for the advice....im gonna start out with infinity at 300RMS that should be plenty. Prolly gonna match it with an alpine, though should i match the amp with infinity too?
Will this hurt my car battery?

you do not need to match the sub with a same brand amp.you can get an Alpine amp to power the Infinity sub.it is going to put more stress on the battery and alternator.like i said before though, try to get one of Alpines Class-D amps.they are designed the most efficiently.something like this-http://www.crutchfield.com/S-z...X2150-it is a Class-D amp.also a capacitor(like.5-1 farad,i would get 1 just to be safe) will help to ease the stress off of the car.
you can get an external 4-channel amp to power your mid/high-range around speakers.it wont necessarily amplify your deck.you hook the external amp up to the head unit via.RCA cables and run all the 4 speakers to your external amp instead of having all 4 speaker running to the head unit.
also if you do this make sure to turn off your internal head unit amplifier.some head units do not have the option to turn it off,but most Alpines have the option to do so.

aright cool thx for the tip....yah i think i can turn off the internal amp of my alpine deck. So the 4 channel amp will further amplify my speakers? With this drain my car battery? Thx again.
yes a 4-chan amp will amplify the speakers better than the head unit.make sure to get an amp that its RMS watt/per channel does NOT go over the RMS wattage of the speakers,if you do it can/will blow the speakers out.if you still have the factory car speakers i would just keep them powered by the head unit and not an external amp.
it will not drain the battery as long as the engine is running.if you are listening to music and whatnot with the engine off it will eventually drain the battery.
