Default I need help from the audio nerds

So uh... My car came with a stereo system when I bought it. I took out the sub and the amp for the sub, but I left in all the other aftermarket speakers and the amp that controls them.

And... I blew them.

Soooo... The amp is a PowerPrecision Powerclass 4400. From what I gathered on Google, it's a 400watt 4 channel amp.. with the specs:

50 x 4 @ 4ohms
100 x 4 @ 2 ohms

Sooo... what speakers do I buy? Just give me a model number or a series of speaker I should look at. Lets pretend my budget is $400, should it be more? less? I'm not putting the sub back in, so I need speakers that will make Humpty Hump rock my socks without one. I don't know anything about car audio... I'm just looking for an easy solution.

Ohhh...

Fronts are Kicker's... 5.25" in the door and 1" in the mirror plastic thingy.
Rears are Xplodes.... 6x9's.

If anyone is able to help, thanx in advance! Otherwise... the sales guy at Best Buy is going to have to be my "guru".

NERDS! I wouldn't think you would get much help calling people names but I know you meant that in a good way.
As far as the amp, that should be fine to run you mids and highs because it's a 4 channel amp. As far as speakers go, there are too many to choose from. I'd say $400 is a good price range to get the better quality speakers that can handle the amps power. I have MB quartz in mine and they are pretty good and can handle an amp when I decide to put one on them.
I would suggest a component set for the front which has a seperate tweeter and mid range speaker. Then just get a good pair of 6x9's for the back.
As far as brand, I would listen to a couple different brands inside the car not the store before choosing. Hope this helps some.

Heh... Of course it was in a good way! There is plenty of things I can be classified as a "nerd" with, I just don't want to add on any more subjects.

My whole issue is having a lack of knowledge on the entire subject.

Do I get 50watt 4 ohm speakers or 100 watt 2 ohm speakers... Do you put 4 ohms up front and 2 ohms in the rear? I'm completely lost on this subject... at the same time... I don't really want to learn. Which is why I'm looking for just outright suggestions. I would rather get an unbiased opinion from someone on a forum rather then from some goof off in Best Buy just looking for the highest commission. I'll fork over the money for the right equipment... as long as I know it's the right equipment.

Thanx.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2068KS5...250.html?tp=97 for the front

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2068KS6...howAll=Y&tp=91 and those for the back

6x9= 179.99
5.25= 99.99

279.98 with tax id say round to 300.

I would go with a 6.5 in the front. 5.25 are just to small IMO.

For the front

For the rear
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=19624

Still within your budget.

Honestly you could come up with an infinite amount of suggestions. Good luck!

What the hell is sales tax?

Thank you for the suggestions! If I go for the Infinity's... I'll probably go with the 5.1, The door panels have already been altered to accept that size and I don't want to mess with anything.

But one question... Except for the Infinity 6x9's... they are all 4 ohms speakers. Maybe I'm reading them wrong, but according to the spec's... I only get 50watts at 4 ohms... Should I be looking for 2 ohm speakers so I can take advantage of 100watts per channel? Thanx!

Do you mean Precision Power PC4400.2... http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/PPI_PC4400.2/

You should be looking for 4 ohm speakers with a continuous, [RMS] power handling of 50W or less, or a 2 ohm speaker with a continuous power handling of 100W or less.

Infinity makes some pretty good 2 ohm speakers in your price range. 94

Minus the .2
I have the first version... The only difference I see is that mine is chrome and shiny.

I figured I would be looking for 2ohm or 4ohm speakers, my question was which one is better? Or does it not matter? Can I have 4ohms upfront and 2ohms in the rear? Or are you not suppose to mismatch?

Holy 13k posts!

2 ohm speakers will allow the amp to make more power, [4x100W RMS into 2 ohms or 4x50W RMS into 4 ohms] if you are not worried how loud you can play it then use 4 ohm speakers, the SQ will be better, the amp will run cooler, you will not need as much current.

There is no reason not to mix speaker impedance, however, use 2 ohms in the front and 4 ohms in the rear, rear speakers are there for rear fill only, in fact whatever you use in the rear, wire them is series and connect them to the bridged rear channels of the amp for a mono rear fill, it will improve staging and imaging. 94

Awesome! Thanx...

I think I'm going to go with the Infinity's... I've gotten quite a few recommendations on them. I have another amp I can hook up... It was powering the sub that I removed. So If I can't get the power/volume I'm looking for out of this amp... I'll connect the rear shelf speakers to the extra amp.

Thanx for everyone's help!

that amp that was used for the sub will be too strong for any 6x9 etc...but do also depend on wat the amp its. clearly you dont want a 600rms into 6x9s.LOL

Get these for the front... http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...=CA&Region=USA

Get these for the rear... http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...=CA&Region=USA and as I suggested wire them in series for a 4 ohm load to the bridged rear channels of the amp, I would even disable the tweeters in the 6x9s, having highs coming from behind you will just lower the sound stage and produce what's called "left/right bias" the music will sound like it is comming from the left and right speakers instead of in front of you. 94

Why are you suggesting these reference speakers over the Perfects? Is it because they are 2ohm? Or because they are better... yet cheaper then the Perfects? I know what reference speakers (at least in the home stereo/studio world) are... but don't understand their purpose in a car audio setup. I do agree that the spec's match what I have/need... but I'm just wondering if they were suggested for those reasons or if they are superior to the more expensive speakers? Thanx!

Because they are 2 ohm, you would be way underpowered for the Perfects, and although a better "speaker" without a proper install and more power the Reference speaker will sound better.

With that said, you could get the Perfect 6.1, wire the amp as a 2ch for the fronts only, [keeping the amp gain at about 50%] and use HU power for the rear speakers.94
