Default how to hook up mp3 player without a head unit

First of all i want to say that i know nothing when it comes to audio. what i would like to do is somehow hook up my mp3 player to a speaker(s) so that it can be easily removed. i do not want to use a head unit or door speakers. I am not looking for anything fancy. i will only use this car to get me to track events and want to take everything out when i get there. i think i am going to need to run on of the wires, that would normally power the head unit, to an amp (i know nothing about amps) and then some show connect everything together. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Why not just get a decent boom box and a dc-ac inverter and all it a day...

D batteries are cheaper than an inverter.

All you need is an amp to drive the speakers, a RCA to mini phono jack, [headphone jack] adapter, done deal. 94

Not trying to bash ya but if you don't wanna use the front speakers (would make wiring a mini amp and headphone jack really simple) and you don't want a deck yet want something that is easy to remove the simpliest option is a basic boombox.

A pair of 6x9 box's and speakers plus THIS with the boxes bolted to each and the amp to it, you'd simply need the lil power plug to unhook and it'd get you what you want...

Hey, I'm planning on doing something like this. No head unit, mp3 player, 4 channel amp under the passenger seat, 4 speakers. I was planning on extending the headunit subharness to keep things clean. I am going to use a headphone jack -->rca cable, and 2 rca splitters to get the signal to both f&r inputs.

What is the amp remote turn on signal? Is is just a switched 12V signal? Use the 12v ignition wire, yeah?
