Default Help a Newb find security plz

Hey guys, so I am moving back into an apartment complex soon and I want my car to be a little protected. I do not want to spend a ton of money on a super great alarm system or anything, but I do realize that 92-95 civic have maintained the highest stolen vehicle for many years so I would like something to discourage theives.

I do not know anything about alarm systems at all. I currently have a 92 civic DX. Any suggestions for a fairly inexpensive but good alarm system? Mostly I figure that an alarm system isn't going to stop theives no matter how good it is. But I do figure that some kind of alarm that you can tell is there will at least discourage people a little and maybe decrease my chances of it getting stolen.

Ideas? Suggestions?

I also have no idea what a decent alarm system would cost, my general price range is between $100 and $200. Am I being unrealistic?

a basic alarm, i mean basic alarm can run you like 100. but unless you have the knowledge to install it youre gonna pay maybe another 100 so you'll be at give or take 200ish. it should do the job, look into the basic viper alarms theyre real good for the money.

False.. It depends if it's a custom alarm that is upgraded with extra sirens, lights, sensors, etc & if the thief is a punk kid or a professional.

A very good read about the proper effectiveness of a vehicle security alarm in a actual real theft attempt:

A lot of alarm/stereo places have sales on occasion for free installation of any alarm system. Not sure if you can use that and pay a bit extra for a stealth install but hope that helps.
