head unit install...help!
Hey, I have a 96 civic with keyless entry and I'm installing my alpine headunit...
I know you have to keep the stock radio to keep the keyless entry, but has anyone ever succeeded at removing it and keeping the keyless?
My second question is...
I'm installing it in the factory din right in front of the cupholders. Does honda make anything that covers the gap between the CD player and dash? The alpine one is too big...
Thanks in advance...

You can install the HU in the stock location, with this kit... http://www.scosche.com/scosche...1570B
and this harness... http://www.scosche.com/scosche...HAK3B the small plug is for your dome light, then to get key-less entry get an alarm and wire the door-lock outputs from the alarm to the cars door-lock module, [no it is not in the oem HU, it only has the RF section] you now have your key-less entry back and an alarm, [if you do not want an alarm, just get an aftermarket key-less entry unit]. 94

Also you'll have to join the two wires, green/red and green/black if my memory serves me right. If you don't join these wires after removing the factory deck, your dome light wont come on when the door is open.

Awesome info guys..Thanks!!
But I'm curious, what made honda make the car this way? Seems like a flaw to me...

It's not a flaw... It's merely the way they designed it...
It's no more a flaw than having to bypass the Acoustic Feedback system on Preludes when installing a deck... Poor design, maybe, but far from a "flaw"....
