Is this a good security system?
I've looked around and haven't seen this one mentioned: http://search-desc.ebay.com/se...earch
Would this be a good purchase for my 97 civic?

No. Look into a Viper or Compustar alarm system. Search and you will find that these are the alarms most of the peolpe on the forum have. And they have them for a reason.
I looked at the Compustar's and they're more expensive then I'm looking for, and the viper 791xv I found on ebay is for automatics only.
In any case, can you offer a reason for not getting the GV9? I know that Viper is a proven brand but stuff doesn't always have to be namebrand to be the best. Also, car thieves probably have a lot of experience with the viper alarms, it might be good to have something not so popular. Does anyone have any experience with this system, or know why it would be a bad choice?

^^^True. I have tried some of brand equipment before and its not worth the time and the effort sometimes. the equipment is just too cheap. As far as thieves having experiences with viper it doesn't really matter to them what brand alarm you have, it doesn't effect the way they yank/cut it out. The alarm will only be as good as the install, but the equipment has to be up to par as well.
Do you recommend that I get the Viper (which isnt supposed to be for manuals) or try my luck with the other system. If by some chance it doesnt work, I can always send it back.
I have to agree with all the above.....
No, it does not have to be brand name to work.
Yes, you are better off with brand name product, [proven track record]
Absolutely, it all depends on the install.
What I would look at is what do I get, $83 for alarm, $23 for shipping, not bad for a 2way alarm/starter, but then you get what you pay for.
Did you read their warranty/exchange policy "Worldwide Export reserves the final decision on any dispute"
There is no indication of who pays shipping if you have a problem, that normally means you.
Hong Kong is a long way off if you have a problem.
IMO the only way to buy an alarm is from an authorized dealer, that has a local outlet near you, and preferably many dealers all over the country, so if you have a problem your not stuck someplace, most brand name alarms/starters will come with a lifetime warranty along with lifetime warranty on the install if purchased and installed at an authorized dealer.
Think of it this way, what is it worth to you not to be stuck in the middle of buttf%#k nowhere, with someplace important you have to be, pissing down rain/blizzard and your car will not start because something has gone wrong with the alarm?
Not that the above can't happen with any other alarm, but it is more likely to happen with some no name brand off eBay from Hong Kong.

If you want to remote start your car get the Compustar. If you don't want the remote star feature I recommend the Viper 5000. I have a 5000 in my Teg. I like the fact that I have a retained accessory power now. Do some research into the alarms and then decide which one has the features that you are looking for.
