G3 Integra front speaker issues....
How do you guys install aftermarket speakers in the doors when the maximum depth (according to Crutchfield) is only 1 7/8"?
I want to get a new set of components (MB Quart RSC 216s) that have a depth of 2 3/4", so that's almost an inch of extra room I'll need.
I've never been inside my door panels but plan to dig around in there and break stuff tomorrow.

You need to cut a 3/4" spacer ring out of MDF. Take the plastic black housing the OEM speaker sit in, trace the outline and cut a hole in the middle to mount the woofer. This will need to be sandwiched between the woofer and the door. I did this when I put in my 218.61Qs.
This is what you do. You have to lose the factory covering for your speakers. You cut out 6 1/2 in. from any piece of wood, I prefer 1 in. or 3/4 in. and so your MB quarts will fit in the opening and you mount that into your factory location. Your speaker will be sticking out more but it won't interfer with your window. You get what I'm trying to say?
you can make a spacer out of wood that brings the speaker away from the door, I think you have about 2" before you have to worry about it touching the door panel.

You don't have to cut a spacer. Just cut the backing out of the black plastic speaker mount and you should have room enough to put in a foam baffle to protect the speaker, and then the speaker. That's how I have my RF's mounted.

I have Cerwin-Vega HED's in my car, they came with spacers, and I mounted them in the front door just fine with the spacer, and the stock cover fits fine. I had to trim the "box" behind the door to fit the wirirng and harness in there, but they work. The rears didn't need a spacer.

So you all are talking about a spacer (roughly 1") that will go between the speaker and the mounting spot on the door and I will just have to use longer screws to secure this spacer and the speaker? Seems easy enough. I'm going outside to take off the door panel and look what is back there. Thanks everyone.

just make a spacer out of MDF that situates the speaker out a little more or cut some of the basket but since your afraid it'll interfere w/ the power window.. just use a spacer so it sits out a little further out.. this is what we did on my ex gf's prelude...
