^^^^thanks for the link. nice to see what youve got there.
my friend has this idea to build a box that basically encases the area from the tire well back, filling the vertical space up to where a cargo cover would rest. he wants to mount the speakers facing front and put the amp on the box too. im concerned that this is not only going to weigh a ton, but might get too messy and look crappy.

I don't know of any pr of 10" subs that would need a box with that much volume.
If weight is an issue, fiberglass is your friend, getting the weight of the box and subs as low as possible and as far back as possible is also and advantage, not only for audio performance but for the cars performance also, it helps with weight ratio/balance and center of gravity.

thats what i thought. at first i just wanted some truck sub boxes and rest one behind each seat, amp under one of the seats, keepin it easy. then my homie comes over and shoots out this idea. idea itself sounded good but i was skeptical. yeah, that **** would definitely weigh too much. ive spent years trying to lighten my hatch and minimize its weight and now that im there, add 40+ lbs of speaker box? dont think so. truck sub boxes should work yeah? dont you only really need about 1.5 cubic feet of space for 2 10's? these are the ones i picked up, if it helps.

The sub will work in .6 - 1.5 cuft, [1.2 - 3 cuft for two of them] recommended sealed box is 1 cuft, [2 cuft for two of them].
Again if weight is an issue, they are really the wrong subs, if anything I would use one of them, in a sealed spare tire well box, get your sub as far back in the car as you can.
A couple more thing, your amp is underpowered for two of the subs, they are 300W 4 ohm subs and the amp only makes 1x500W RMS into 4 ohms, [or 2x170W RMS into 4 ohms] and is not stable below 4 ohms when bridged, [but would drive one of the subs without any problem].

keep that amp, build a ported box out of birch ply..you'll end up with around the same amount of output and weight as a sealed box constucted from mdf with more power..
^^^^ that **** does look clean man. i fucked around with my hb for about 6 hrs yesterday and have 0% completed. every time i tried to work on something, i hit a dead end. my buddys saws sucked, my front door mounts were from a 4dr, my deck kept blowing fuses, wiring harness all cut and re-soldered, nothing but frustration. for a bit, thought about selling all the **** ive bought and just rockin no stereo like i have for the past 5 years. took a deep breath, thought about it, and will get back at it tonight. the pic above does certainly help. i dont see a bottom part of the box though, looks like he used the actual spare well with some polymer around the edges to seal it? thanks for helping guys.
spent today messing with my setup. after much frustration this past week, been making progress. got my deck in and working. fabricated/modded some mounts for my front components, and took measurements for my rear box. im gonna try something like whats above, i like that. only gonna use 1 of my subs though. ill have the extra for when i blow the first, lol.
