Default Do i need an AMP???

hey guys, since im a student, i decided to use my up and coming tax return on these speakers today. I was wondering if i would need an amp, and if so, what kinda power and any suggestions on cheap but good amps. oh, do you think the speakers are good (considering im ona very limited budget)? i got all four of them brand new for $218, no tax. thanks in advance.

In the front: 2 Pioneer TS-D170R
6-3/4" 2-way Speakers

And in the back: Pioneer TS-A6985
6"x9" Speakers

*edit* : do 6x9 fit ok in the back of a 92 teg with minimal cutting? thanks

oh, this is my head unit: 4x50
Sony CDX-CA400
CD Receiver with CD Changer Controls

You don't need an amp, but it will make it sound much better.

6x9's take a little "creativity" to fit into the rear desk of a teggy. Have fun man. Hope you have an air saw.

What does an amp do???

Hmm... heres an example:

Your cd player puts out 15 watts of continuious power.
A small amp puts out 50 watts of continuious power.
Speakers rated 5-50 watts. Which one do you think would sound better?
The added power of the amp allows you to reach the speakers mechanical limits without pushing the amp too hard (causing it to clip)
