Default DEI battery backup problem

Hi all. Im having an issue with my DEI battery backup module. I ran the grey wire to the alarm +12v, red to 12v constant, black to ground and blue to (-). When its wired this way, it seems my alarm isnt getting the power it should. Basically it stops working. If I wire the alarm straight to 12v constant, it works as it should again.

Any idea whats going on here?

Thanks

Hi, sorry about that. By (-) I meant the - trunk input on the brain. I read elsewhere that as long as it was a - input on the brain it would function correctly. I purchased the unit on ebay.

Thanks all

How long are these things supposed to last? I checked last week and it doesn't work anymore... I installed this last year.

If the blue lead is connected to the trunk input trigger of the alarm and the trunk is also connected to the alarms input and there is a trunk light and no diodes are used the first time the BB is triggered, main batt. disconnected the BB circuit, [trigger output blue] will be damaged, it is a low current ground , [250mA], when triggered the ground output will go to the trunk light, the trunk light will draw more then 250mA overloading the BBs trigger output and damaging it and possibly other parts of the BB circuit, [like power output to alarm].

I also agree with killer it may just be because it is just more eBay junk from an unauthorized DEI dealer.

Nocture, if you are talking about the BB batt. itself, the life of a batt. depends on a lot of things, starting with the quality of the batt. itself, but you should get at least 3-4 years out of it. 94

I have eBay bought DEI battery backups on three of my cars and they all work like new. The oldest one is now 4 years old on my wife's car. Also never have had a former customer track me down for one going bad.

DEI dealer mark up on accessories is almost criminal. eBay FTW.

I guess I suck then. Ive gotten all other components to work flawlessly. This is all thanks to your site btw suspendedhatch. I guess ill just buy another one and try again, maybe this time with diodes.
