Default Component Questions...Mounting.

Alright, so I have a 96 Civic EX and aggravated story short I'm replacing the speakers. I'm going to leave the brand out for now because everyone has their own opinion.

Anyway, I know that you have to cut out the plastic baffle to fit them it but I'm wondering how close the woofers will come to the window, on the back end and if it will be an issue.

Second, I am looking to modify the stock tweeter housing to fit these ones in and was wanting to see if anyone has done this.

Sure, I could use a whole saw for the tweeter or mount it towards the windshield but I was looking for more of a stock look. Any information would be great and pictures would be awesome as well. Thanks.

were going to need to know what type of speakers so we can help you.
all speakers have different mount depths.
im 99.99% sure your fine and they wount hit the window.
i put different ones in my 98 and they dont come anywhere near the window.

are you trying to put them in the spot where the stock tweeter is?
moding the tweeter spot is done all the time, not all will fit in stock size whole

Ah what the heck I suppose I don't care what others have to say, Infinity Kappa 60.9 . Mount depth is 2 7/16" for the woofer. The tweeter is 1" deep and 2" in diameter. I checked and there is roughly 4" to the window. I'm more or less trying to figure it all out before I decide to freeze my **** off for an hour or so.

I've done components before just not near a window; however, I just got off the phone with a friend who is an installer, not at best buy mind you, and he said that there is no need for a baffle and it will just ruin the speaker faster. Plus you shouldn't be driving with your windows down in the rain anyway, haha just an FYI.

You just need to get in there and see. If you run into depth issues make a ring out of MDF to space them.

The MDF will be taken into consideration thanks SQSI.

Yeah I am going to mount them in the stock location, I'll gut it if I have to but as close to stock appearance is what I am doing. Sounds like I might have to take some pics if I succeed. I'm going to take the tweet housing off tomorrow and see what is up. It would be cool if someone has done a mod like this. Also, I'm just too lazy and apprehensive about cutting holes.

yea sounds like your going to have to open up the whole, which is not a big deal at all.
just dont cut to much off lol.
just check and re check and cut a little at a time.
deffinetly use a whole saw to do this,
did the tweeters come with cover rings and everything right?

Yeah they have cover rings but it makes them 1/3 bigger. I could mount them if i wanted to but like I said i want the OEM look. I'm probably going to use my dremel for this. I going to take some pics to day of the difference between new and old...it is insane.

Oh yeah, I had a huge gouge for the longest time from punching a hole in something and not watching where my hand was. Taking off my rear deck today...funny story. The crappy eclispe ones I took out of there just slid out of the bottom. BTW, if anyone sees the guy I bought my car from, tell him to stay far away from mounting speakers forever...ha ha.
