Can i fix this?
I was recently given a used jl subwoofer, only thing is the wire connecting to the actual speaker is broken, very close to the speaker, can i fix this or should i toss it?
Yeah, soldering that braided wire is a pain and the solder joint is likely to break since that's a high-motion area. If you do want to try it, I wouldn't worry about melting the cone in that area. It's under the dust cap, so you won't effect the sealing capacity of the cone. In fact, it may benefit if you can melt the cone to be able to pull some more of that wire out. You may be able to get about 1/4 more slack to enable you to solder it better. Then, seal it back up so the solder joint is on the opposite (under the dust cap) side of the cone.
Good luck!
