Default Blinking LED alarm indicator

How would I wire up a blinking LED to turn on when I shut off my ignition? I know they sell units that do this, but I'd rather save some cash and set it up myself, just don't know how to wire the thing. TIA

Those things are so cheap, you would spend more buying all the parts and doing it yourself. I think we sold them for $5, so I'm sure you can find them cheaper online.

Parts? I've got LEDs and wire, what else could there be? Maybe a relay? Just got to know what to wire it to.

You will need resistor, capacitor, and oscillator. Those alone will be more than an entire flashing LED.

Help me out here...

Resistor: would this be to lower the voltage so you wouldn't burn the LED? I've got a 12 volt LED

Capacitor: These store power, what would I need it for? I've got capacitors.

Oscillator: Help me out with this one.

Thanks.

Here are some sites if you want to do it for fun or a challenge, but your just reinventing the wheel when the flashing LEDs are $2:

Thanks but maybe I'm not making myself clear. I can easily wire a flashing LED into my car, and I could put it on a switch if I wanted, but I just want to wire it up so that when the ignition is turned off, it turns on. This should be pretty simple right? All in the wiring I would assume, but I don't know of something to wire it to that becomes hot when the ignition is switched off.

Oh, yeah I misunderstood you sorry. In that case it's easy. Wire up the + to 12 volts constant and run the ground to the ignition wire( I always ran them to the ignition harness wire). That wire rests at ground and is powered whith key on. THat is the normal way to do it.

So you're just switching the negative instead of the positive... gotcha.
