Beefier Alternator?
I have a 89 CRX Si, and if the parts on Autozone.com are any indication, I have a 60amp alternator.
I just recently (as in, within the past 2 months) put a second amplifer for my mids and highs in my car. Approximately doubling my power load. The combined total of my fuses is 80 amps now, 40 in each amplifer.
And Saturday Autozone tested my alternator and told me it was dead, which was pretty much my conclusion too after having to get jumped twice in a row
Is it possible I'm responsible for the early demise of my original alternator after 170,000 miles, and I need a beefier alternator? Or is this about the time these things usually go?
EDIT:
My install is nothing special, two cheap-o Verge tens I've had forever, in a box my friend gave me. The bass amp is a older pioneer 5xxx series pushing a total of 380 watts RMS into the two speakers which are wired in parallel, and the mids and highs are handled by a Kenwood 8402 which supposedly puts out 60 watt RMS X 4 into 4 ohms, running into 2-way Memphis Audios in the front doors, and 3-way pioneers in the rear. A very balanced sound, when you get the gains set just right anyway, any "properly produced" (ie lots of headroom, dynamic range, NOT compressed garbage) CDs can be played with the headunit turned all the way up. It may be a JVC, but its definitely getting the job done, you can't complain about anything in that price range with 3 pre-outs.

yea you are on the verge of the max your alt can put out, Look into getting a 100 amp or 120 amp alt. Also stepping up and doing the big three will help out alot.

I agree, however an upgraded alternator will run you at least 500$.

I found this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
My only concern is that because there is coils of wire needed, that the alternator would be larger than the stock one and require fabrication of a new adjustment bracket.

I just spoke with steve the owner of the shop, They are re-wrapped and he gaureented they put out 160a. Its 70-90 at Idel and 160a above 2000k, He said he could put a smaller pully on it to bump it up to 160 at idel. More stres, I am going to pay him a vist this weekend to check them out in person, Because the price is bargin. If you want I'll peep the unit that is on ebay for you in person. Its a direct fit so you don't have to worry, 100% ebay so thats something

Well the person telling me a higher output one might not fit was also someone trynig to charge me $85 to rebuild mine (I could have taken it to Auto Parts plus or Auto Zone if I wanted to pay that much, geeze) so he would definitely have a vested interest in steering me away from it
I dont think I'd need more than 70-90 amps, as the total fuse capacity in my two amplifiers is only 80 amps, I dont know why it didn't occur to me to research the output of the stock CRX alternator before I dropped that second amplifier in, but I'll know better next time

So your telling me you have no intention of driving your car?
If the amp pulls 80 that leaves 10 to run your lights, heater, ac, ignition, ect. You want to think worse case here not best case.
