Yes it would be OK. When you say 1200W, is that RMS? What voice coil configuration is the current subwoofer? Be sure to set the gains correctly and not to send a clipped signal.

Arguable. What if that infinity is only a 150rms speaker? Would you still be ok sending it 1200rms? I, for one, wouldn't do that with an infinity product.

infinity subs blow really easy, and if it's ported, it doesn't need a lot of power. I would just buy the amp, let it sit until you can afford the jl's and then sell your old set up.

Just because an amp is rated 1200w doesnt mean it's putting out full power all the time.

Need more info from the OP about what the current Infinity subwoofer and future amp will be.

I highly doubt that the amp you want to get is 1200 rms power. It is probably 1200 peak and like 3 or 400 rms. So you probably wouldn't blow it but just don't bump it too much.

And b4 you buy your new subs you wana make sure that the rms on the amp matches or is a little greater than the wattage of the subwoofers or they won't be hitting very hard. Just forget the peak power that doesn't mean jack.

yes thats fine...he clearly said would it be ok to buy a 1200 watt amp and turn it down....yes you can do that....just tune it to where the sub is looking like its getting a nice pulse and not hammering the hell out of itself.

either way, if you tune the amp right to the sub it wont blow, and most likely like johnson816 said its probably not 1200 watts rms thats probably the max.
