Amp keeps overheating...HELP
Well i searched and didn't come up with much. Here's the dilemma. I got one bridged MTX 282 pushing one 4-ohm Alpine Type R 12.
It's wired as followed:
(AMP Channel 1 '+')--------------> (Teminal '+') ----------->(Voice Coil 1 '+')--------->(Voice Coil 2 '+')
(AMP Channel 2 '-')----------------> (Teminal '-') ----------->(Voice Coil 1 '-')--------->(Voice Coil 2 '-')
I hope that made sense. It's kinda hard the explain in words. Anyways... the 282 keeps shutting off (LED turns off...no power to sub) after awhile it turns back on. I mounted the amp onto two strips of wood, to raise the bottem off of the trunk floor to better air circulation around it. It didn't make too much of a difference. Any suggestions guys? Is it wired correctly?
Thanks!!

That looks like a 2 OHM load, if you have a DVC 4OHM sub and you wire the voice coils in parallel you will have a 2OHM load,and most 2CH amps are not stable at 2OHMs [they get very hot and the amps thermal protection will shut amp down] if your sub is SVC 4OHM then the problem may be not enough power. Check all connections, solder all terminals, use min. 8ga power wire, use ANL fuse and holder within 18" of batt.,ground amp to main frame of car.[as close to amp as you can,use seat bolts,seatbelt bolts ] add min. 8ga ground to batt. hope this helps

Your amp is only stable to 4ohms bridged, you are currently running it at 2ohms and it is going into protection mode.
You need to either run it in stereo(each channel to one voice coil), or keep it bridged and wire the coils in series.
Either way you will end up with about the same amount of power.
