Default alternator noise

I recently installed a full system in my Teg. I have the power cable running along the driver's side and the patch cables on the passenger side to minimalize any induced alternator noise. The amp is grounded to the bolt behind the rear seat. The HU was grounded through the harness. Antenna ground is good. My problem is, there is some very noticable alt. noise. I've isolated the problem to the HU, so I tried a different HU with the same results. The problem gets a lot worse when the a/c is turned on. Is the Integra supposed to have a "naturally" noisy ground or is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure the RCA's and any speaker wire do not cross the power wire at any point on it's way back to the amp. You should also try a different ground if that doesn't work. There's another great ground under the spare tire, it's the bolt that holds the spare tire to the wheel well.

Does this noise occur all the time, or is it in synch with the engine? You rev it a little, the noise get's louder?

I had what I thought was alternator noise, but in fact it came from my speakers (it increased with engine revs and was louder with lights/AC on leading me to believe it was the Alternator).

The problem was grounding. That's likely yours too.

Ok tomorrow I will try grounding the HU to the same grounding point as the amp. That should fix things. Thanks for the help; I've set up systems in other cars and never figured a head unit/amp ground loop would introduce so much noise.

Let me know how that goes. Because YOU ARE NOT ALONE!~! My engine noise is reidiculously loud and I have three 12" subs. in my teg. With all the highs hookedup to a punch 400a4. Thanks

Well I took the interior apart and ran a ground wire from the HU to the amp grounding point. A good amount of the whine is gone. BUT it's still there. Now I'm thinking it could be the HU's backstrap since it is screwed into that rear support bar for the stock HU. I'll be taking the backstrap off today to see if that helps any.

Could your RCA ends behind the deck be hitting grounding out. If they are metal barrels on the RCAs, try covering them with electrical tape.
