Default alpine headunit problem.

just installed an alpine 9827 headunit into my girlfriends 03 nissan xterra. it worked fine after install for 3 days then today, she calls and said it just died out on her. what would be the problem? check the wires again or for blown fuses? thanks for the help ...

the Alpines amp has 3 or 4 times the watts that the OEM HU has, so it also needs 3 or 4 times more power to run properly, the stock memory wire can't deliver that. 94

yea, the fuse blew so we replaced it and electrical taped up the extra wires. i dont understand why re routing the yellow wire directly to the battery would help since wouldnt the yellow wire already hooked up to the harness connect to the battery itself? thanks for the help. and i was wondering what could be the cause for the fuse to blow in the first place? thanks alot.

and this is what one of the audio experts on HT said..i didnt know this about the ground.

cheack all the fuses under the hood and dash. then pull the radio, make sure the deck has power, ignition and ground. nissans don;t have a ground in the factory wiring harness. you may have to make a ground wire, just screw a piece of wire onto the metal dash brase, and hook it to the deck. make sure to check the fuse on the back of the deck. good luck.

</TD></TR></TABLE>Yea.... just like the powe , [ yellow] the ground has to be good, but like he said Nissan normaly don't have grounds in the OEM radio harness, and I would assume you ran the Hu ground to the chassis, [evan if you used an adpt. harness that has a black ground in it , and evan if the Nissans radio harness has a ground, you still need to ground to the chassis]

As for getting the wire through the firewall, there a number of grommets for wireing and cables in the firewall, maybe evan some unused "dummy" plugs use one of them, or drill a hole and install a grommet 94
