Alarm Install Help
How do I tap into my dome light for sensor activity? How do I do it for my Rear hatch? Also can I tap into the locking/unlocking mechanism instead of going with the Dome/Trunk light? I was thinking, if I tap into the unlock mechanism, when the car is unlocked without dearming, the alarm will go off. Input and how would it be done? Thanks.
Ahh Sorry, just thought it would be the same no matter what year, make and model...it's a 1997 Honda Civic DX (brothers). His is going to be a test subject. If it works, i'm doing it for my IX. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Well first of all, you don't tap the dome light for "sensor activity". You tap the door trigger.
Same thing for the rear hatch/trunk. You tap the trunk trigger.
And since you have a DX, there's nothing to tap into with the lock mechanism because you don't have power locks. However, even if you did have power locks, I doubt you could trigger the alarm by simply unlocking the doors with the key....

Nah I read the sticky (Good Write Up) but it doesn't tell me if what I am asking is possible or not. Also I am not looking for the Alarm to trigger when I use a key. If someone wanted to pry my lock to unlock then it triggers.
Basically I don't like leaving dome lights on. If Dome light is Off will the alarm still trigger when doors are open? Im thinking no. That's why i'm asking if there is a way to setup the system for when the door latch is unlocked, the alarm triggers and activates. Unless the alarm can still trigger with Dome lights turned off...then I have my answer...

The alarm will trigger if a door is opened, [alarm armed] even if the dome light is turned on or off, the door pins supply a ground, [when doors open] either way.
You can install a switch on the door handles so if they are pulled/lifted the alarm would give warning chirps, [if alarm has that capability] or trigger the alarm into full alarming mode.
I suppose you could do the same with the lock cylinders, but getting the alarm not to trigger if you use a key could be tricky, but nothing is impossible.

Well on my Old Evo, the shop installed a Viper 591V (I think). When the alarm is armed, windows down, I reach in and unlock the door, when the doors opened, nothing...no trigger. I never tried it with the domelights on tho. Thats' why im trying to figure out a way to trigger it by simply unlocking the car, either with a key, a special theif tool, prying windows and unlocking car, etc...
Also how do you install that switch you are talking about fcm?

The door trigger was not connected properly in your "OLD Evo".
Which switch, the one on the door handle or the one on the door lock?
There are diff. ways to do it but I like to use a NO, [normally open] spring loaded switch, kind of like a pin switch, but the spring keeps the switch open, [off].
The switch is mounted and another spring is used to connect the pin to the linkage or levers of the lock or door handle.
The trick is to have the right spring between the linkage and the "pull" pin, it must be stronger then the pin-switches spring to be able to pull the pin to close the switch, but also the proper amount of extra "spring" to make up the longer travel of the linkage compared to the switch, the switch pin moves less then 1/4", most linkage, [at a spot that is convenient for installing the switch] moves more then that.
What I do is, find a good spot to connect the spring, put linkage into trigger mode, EG; if you are doing the door handle, you would lift the door handle, if you are doing the lock you would unlock the door.
once the spring is connected to a good spot pull the switch away from that spot until the the pin pulls out and closes the switch, [turns it on], find a spot to mount the switch, [you may have to make a bracket, but that's what back bracing is for].
If you have picked the right spring, [strong enough] you will only need to pull the switch back a little bit before the switch closes, [a little more then 1/4"] but will be able to pull it back at least the travel of the linkage without stretching the spring.
Some years back I picked up a box of 1001 assorted springs, I still have half of them, and a selection of good quality springs is needed to do this, and have it work properly and be reliable.
As you can see it is a little involved, and in the end the crook is going the smash the window and open the door, he is going to slimjim the lock and open the door, he is going the pry the window/window frame unlock and open the door, or he will drive a screwdriver into the lock cylinder and turn the whole assembly unlocking the door so he can open it, would be a lot easier and more dependable, to just connect the door pins to the alarm properly, it is so simple on Honda/Acuras, and as I said, it will work if the dome light is turned off.
