96-98 lower pocket
i want to install my CD player into the lower pocket on my 98 civic instead of the factory radio spot... my question is.. how...is there some sort of kit to install it there or do i just take out the pocket?.. thanks in advance for your input
He's talking about mounting the radio down behind the cupholders...
If you remove the pocket down there, you will be able to ISO-mount the deck in that space. There will be a little gap though, so you'll need to fab up a spacer ring if you're concerned about that...

It's a tricky install if you have little to work with.
I installed a deck in my cousin's 98 Civic. I removed the storage pocket, and screwed the deck into the side mounting holes on the bracket where the pocket was originally screwed to. However, the deck could slightly swivel up and down. My cousin's deck was a cheap Phase Linear PMP180UCS mp3 deck, so it was packaged in a blister pack with padded tape to keep the unit from shuffling within the packaging. I used the padded tape strips and wedged them between the deck and side brackets. It kept the deck from swiveling up and down. I had to adjust the installation a few times to find the perfect fit so that the when the cupholder lid is up it won't interfere with the faceplate.
The downside to this setup is that you have to look down at the display of the deck, especially if the deck has a clock. Also, it's a pain to reach down below to adjust the volume or change the track. If you have a high end deck with a wireless remote, this may not even be an issue.
