92 CX front speaker help
Need help picking out some speakers for my front doors. My mounting depth is 1.8inch and i need help picking some good speakers. I wanted some infinity's but there all to big from what i can tell. I have some 42mm pioneers then swapped em with some 44mm i had laying around but with that size i cant roll my window down. I want some good sounding speakers because my hatch didnt come with rear ones and even with my volume at max these pioneers suck. Any help would be great. I have about 100$ to spend.
@yesidriveacivic I would but the covers and brackets are hard as **** find.
@949 thanks for the suggestion. Do u think it would be a good idea to still get some speaker brackets and just cut out the back?

The Infinity Reference 6032si is almost a "direct fit", install "pin cushion", [metal adapter ring and gasket] it will use the stock 3 screw mounting and will leave you with the Infinity 4 screw mounting, no cutting is needed. 94
Thanks fcm thats just what im looking for. Do those infinitys sound pretty good?
hmm for a 100 bucks kenwood makes a decent set of coax, so do MTX and Alpine. But as far as depth goes, i have a set of JL C5's in my 92 and they fit just fine. sound amazing too. Infinity speakers i believe are part of Harmon Industries (good brand) but for your 100 bucks you won't be getting into anything great from them. Your best bang for your buck imo is the kenwood 3-way or the Alpine type s.

LOL, 3way speakers are just a gimmick, the Infinities will outperform the "3way" Kenwoods all day long, JL Audio do make a good product, but sound best with a little more RMS power then a "high power" HU can provide, the same goes for the Alpine, although a pretty good sounding speaker for the price, the perform better with more then HU wattage. 94
fcm i never said the the kenwood 3-ways were great, i said they were good for the price. From my experience they have always sounded decent for what they are. I personally have never used Infinity, so if they do make a 100 dollar set that is good then you've taught me something new. I've always stuck with JL, with a kenwood HU or alpine HU.
The operative word there is "custom", they are not avalable aftermarket, you would have to make them.
The 3 rules for speaker installation are...
1 - Airtight seal around the speaker, for at least the diameter of the speaker.
It prevents the speakers rear wave from interfering with the speakers
front wave, eliminating cancellation, lowers the F3 point, results in better
SQ/SPL.
2 - Absolutely flat mounting surface, prevents basket warping and VC
misalignment.
3 - Mass, the more mass the speaker is mounted to the better, and wood
makes the best mass for speakers, the denser the better, MDF is very
dense and has a lot of mass it is very good for mounting speakers to. 94
Thanks alot fcm for goin into detail on how to do it right. So i coudnt just buy something like this?

Ok ive been reading up a little this morning and im new to doing this the right way. So basically mdf spacer for speaker and the dynamat my door? Or do you mean build something to set my speakers in then put a spacer ontop?
i brought them my new speaker and the car's original uncut basket. from there they made something that fits like a glove.
made from mdf. 0.75 inches thick. thats the max. i really enjoyed putting it in as it was practically bolt on. well worth the money. i did pay a premium for something this fitted and made asap. which i needed asap because i needed to finish the project so i could have a car to run the next day.

What I do is I use the stock plastic housings as a template, trace that onto a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF, along with marking the mounting holes, [stock housing mounting holes].
Drill out the holes, countersink the holes and install machine screws, [bolts] long enough to stick out the back about 1/2 an inch.
Cut holes in the plates big enough to get your hand through and at least as big as the speaker, [your using] magnet.
Remove the plastic screw inserts in the door for the stock housing screws.
Mount the plates, [temporarily] to the door with washers and nuts on the machine screws you installed on the plates.
Roll the window down, measure from the window to the front of your plate, measure the mounting depth of the speaker you are using, the difference is the thickness of the spacer you will need to add to the plate to give you the mounting depth you need.
You can then use those MDF rings or make your own spacers, although the hole in the spacer needs to be exactly the mounting hole diameter of the speaker you use, [airtight seal] the outside diameter of the spacer can be any shape you want, [the more mass the better].
Once you have all the pieces made remove the plates from the door and glue the pates and spacers together, [under pressure] and once the glue sets up a little sanding to clean them up, then seal the MDF, [MDF is very pours and will absorb water/moisture, I use fiberglass resin to seal my MDF panels/plates, a good wood sealer will also work.
Hint, If you are going to build custom MDF housings, you can install just about any speaker you want, I have installed 7" Dyne Audio speakers in Honda/Acura doors using the stock speaker grill. 94
Check to see how much room you have between the door and the Factory speaker grill of the door panel. If you have more than 1/2" , you could make a ring out of 1/2" thick piece of wood (MDF also known as Medium Density Fiberboard or plywood) to mount to the door and then the speaker to it. Give the outer diameter at Least 1/2" from the mounting hole of the speaker. A good template would be the speaker grill ring (the plastic part) that came with your speakers.
