Default 2K Accord question??

Hello...Thanks for looking and thanks even more if you can help!

I have a friend with a 2000 Accord and he has a question about getting a new stereo for his car. He has the volume control switch on the steering wheel and he wanted to know if there was an aftermarket headunit that supports using that volume control switch. Is there an adapter he could buy or is he just out of luck?
Thanks in advance!

its probably the same as my friends Acura Legend..but when he got an aftermarket unit he searched for a way to get an aftermarket unit and still use the volume and preset buttons for his car.. couldn't find anything but the new head unit did come w/ a wireless remote..

Thanks racer....That's what he was afraid of. I guess the steering wheel mount is wired and not infrared, huh? My guess is that its wired straight to the stereo. Did your friend mount his wireless remote in the same spot on the steering wheel as the factory one or did he just put it somewhere else?

I don't know the specific model number but he ended up getting a dual DIN size ///Alpine unit that had a tuner, cd player and EQ all in one.. its a double size head unit/dual din....

his car is auto so its not that big of a deal for him to pick up the remote or reach for the stereo.. not sure if you've been in a legend before but he just mounted it on that slanted part of the console which kind of defeats the purpose of a remote since if your reaching there you might as well reach for the stereo buttons...

If you want the steering wheel controls to work, Soundgate does make an interface so that you can do that. It is kinda difficult to install so you might want to have a shop do it for you.

lightning audio and PAC also make a steering wheel interface. but just as stared above it is somewhat difficult to install so professional install is recomended. we charge $120 installed at my shop.

Many places will do anything you can think of. As long as they are getting money they can do it. I have seen many Accords where the steering wheel control works on aftermarket stereos. You should ask a shop before you buy the head unit because some head units might not work.
