I am in the process of doing research on an audio system for a civic 2 dr coupe. I ultimately would like to have a custom made trunk for a double 10" sub system. My questions concern subs, and bass. Can I get deeeeep bass without losing quick responce? And I was searching JL Audio's sight and saw some 10w7 speakers i want, they are type phat. anywho, I was also researching rockford fostgate, i think the hx2 series. 10"also. What do you know about these two subs that will help me make a decision concerning a booming system dcently priced. any and all information is aprreciated....

truthfully i'd say mostly all subs are the same except how much power they can handle. the most important factors are the box and the AMP!!! i'd say go with either sub (theyre both pretty good) but spend $$$ on a good amp. i'd say jbl powervalve 600.1(300x2 @ 2ohms) or 1200.1(600x2 @ 2ohms) or anything else with class D circuitry. good luck!!

 

The words W7 and decently priced do not go hand in hand. The retail on these subs is around 800 each. They are also extrememly deep, so running two would be difficult in a spare tire well. The third problem is tha they have dual 3 ohm coils. This is a strange impedance, and JL did this becuase their amps are happy at a 1.5 ohm mono load. If you use a JL class D then you would be fine.

Now the Fosgates are a bit different. I have not really heard too much of their new stuff, but I will say that I have not been impressed.

First you need to decide what a "decent price" is by giving a hard number. Also decide how loud infact you want to be, and how important sound quality is to you.

 

MM, price, well I would like to spend about 1g'. I would ultimately spend more but up front cost Yea 1g'-1.2g'. Any combos you guys already know of at this price range? I dont need competition bass, but I want bass that I can feel thru my body while driving in my car. I wanna feel it. I am not in it for others outside the car to enjoy the music from within my car although I do want the power. I want a nice medium... power, price and performance, I do want clear music tho. I am thinking that after setting up the subs, I will add composnents speakers up front... that is what I am thinking about... maybe that will helps others comment a littel better and easier...

Just want to build around the heavy bass, I think it's better to get clearer music once you know what type of bass levels you have in your car...

I would do an IDMAX and a Arc Audio 2500 - that would run you about $1.2k. If you want to go a bit more budget, look a Memphis 1000D or a Directed 1100D. Put that in a 1.5cuft sealed box, and get ready for heaven. For that kind of budget any of the above would be good for a SQL setup.

Also - not all subs sound the same. There are big differences between different subs and how they sound.
