This thread is the reason I got my EP3. There's something about yours... I really don't know what it is though. It just looks better than every EP3 I've seen...Ever...I think it might be because you don't have a bodykit or anything (HFP, Type R, etc.). These cars are already tall to start with and extra lips just add to the height and f*** with the proportions. I'm really **** about this kinda stuff and I think that's probably the reason I love yours.
Good luck with it

Re: SHG is back! Easy's EP3 goes under the knife...
Long overdue updates guys!
Now we start diving into what I do best. R+D which leads to custom fab work! Ive been eying these control arms since I took them off the car, and one of the things that grabbed my attention were the mounting cups for the rear knuckle. These are 3 sided and open on the top, leaving room for the mount to flex under high load (at least I assume. I havent done any definitive testing on this) but it cant hurt to do a little over-engineering. I think the reason for Hondas design was to lower manufacturing costs by producing a 3 sided part which could be stamped in one die and require less welding to fasten to the trailing arm.
I decided to close these cups off with some custom gussets. I used 14G flat steel which is a little thinner than the material used from the factory (12g) but it should be sufficient to strengthen those mounting points up. To give the metal some extra strength I used a 3/4 inch dimple die on each gusset.
Here is one of the gussets ready for welding:

And the driver side all welded up

Nice welds
Which way does the knuckle mount to? I can't tell which way is up or down haha. I'm not too familiar with the McPherson layout :p

thanks man, welds could be better. Our welder at the shop is kinda a pos lol.
That is a rear trailing arm in the picture, laying right side up as it would bolt onto the car.

So the rear knuckles bolt in 2 places to the trailing arm... interesting design.
This might help show it all better:
Did you check to make sure those gussets won't interfere with the knuckle at all throughout the suspension's range of motion?

Yeah, thats what the yellow marks are for that you can see in the second picture. I mocked it up and tested through the full travel (and then some) when the suspension was still in the car sans shock.

I'm loving the work done here: http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/P1090316.jpg
It reminds me a lot of Opera Tuning (I'm a huge fan of theirs).

This made me lol for real. I had to explain the meaning of this word to a few neighbors (all adults) a few months back. They were like "No one ever talks that way anyway..". Needless to say, I've seen it dozens of times. I guess they don't use it on beer can labels or the singles at the strip club.
Nice work as always E.

Hey guys! I got the other trailing arm done today, the welds came out a bit better on this one after getting the machine more dialed.
.
.
I also started work on my custom inner tie rod mount. I began by welding in some rod to close up the factory tie rod holes. Ill be doing more with this later this week. The goal is to move the inner tie rod point upward to correct the tie rod angle from lowering the car.
