Default Ryan's 98 Acura Integra

First of all this is my brother's car. I am here to document the build progress and I'll be helping him out with this project. I'll update as we go.

Back story:

My bro purchased the car around 2008. The car originally came from Seattle Washington where it was traded in Vegas where the 2nd owner had purchased it. That owner had it for a couple of years and decided to traded it in. That's where I found the car at a local dealership by searching online. Told my brother about it. Next thing you know I came home from school one day and there it was sitting in the parking lot apartments where we use to live in. Car had few mods over 2009-2011. I call it "high school" setup or "no fund" setup ( A Lot Of No Name Parts). No offence to anyone and my bro, lol. He did have a lot of junk parts. What a trashcan . I also ran a bunch of cheap parts so don't feel offended ( I Mean A Lot Of It ).

Between 2012 and now 2017, his car was put back to stock and he pretty much kept it that way where he daily-ed the car. Around late 2016 and early 2017 we talked about what we're going to do with the car and we decided to fixed it up this year. So the first thing we did was find a body and paint shop. Which we did and dropped off the car at 4/20/17 ( We were feeling good that day ). Just got the car back last week 6/22/17.

The idea that we're going for with the car is to restore most of the parts with OEM and
Aftermarket Upgrades. We want to keep it simple and clean! Nothing to Crazy!
There's no theme that we're going for here but if we did it would be a "Spoon" theme.
Plans will change as we go with the build.

Stay tune for more. Lot's of OEM and Aftermarket Parts!

Have any questions feel free to ask here or pm me.

Here's a couple pictures that I could find when he first purchased the car. Sorry for the blurry pictures

Before we brought it to the body shop we purchased a couple of parts:

- New OEM Front Bumper
- New OEM Rear Bumper
- New OEM Rear Support
- New OEM Front ITR Lip
- New OEM Front Windshield Trims and Clips
- New OEM Rear Wiper Nozzle
- New Aftermarket Front Windshield

When we dropped it off to the body shop. Just notice that my bro's car looks so clean here. The picture is very deceiving.

The plan was to shave and fill the doors, quarter panels, hatch, antenna, and front bumper. Also the dents and imperfections here and there. After a couple of weeks.

Albert showed us the progress.

The following week Eddy sprayed primer. Looking good so far

Bro and Painter Eddy

More weeks passed and this is how it looked days after it got out of the spray booth. You can't see it here in the pictures but it was a bit dusty and full on compound.
It came out good. Didn't get this guy's name but he was putting the car back together.

Finally at 6/22/17 Dave called me and said the car was finished. Me and my bro was very anxious at this point. How it looks.

We were very happy with the end results. Paint and Body work was nice.

Started to work on the car. We decided to work on the interior first starting with the 2 doors.

What we used. Your going to also need a heat gun or a blow drier.

This is the 2 doors before we remove and cleaned the old butyl tape. That's the brown stuff that you see on the door. Very Sticky! This process was time consuming but well
worth it.

After

Then we cleaned the rest of the interior.

What we used. Not pictured but we also used a clean brush for the tight space's.

How it looks after

I did bring the car back to the body shop over the weekend because there were a few spots where it needs touch up on. So that's where we at right now.
Future plans detail the interior more, lol, remove the old tint, then get the interior panels clean and put back on the car.

Stay tune and I'll keep you guys posted.
We have a lot of plans for this car.

Thanks for looking,
LM

Sorry we haven't work on the car that much. We did get the car back from the shop but unfortunately we brought it back again. But in the meantime, some parts that we had laying around. I'll keep you guys posted and more work to be done on the car once we get it back. P.S. this took a while to setup, hahahah. Makes a better picture for sure

Yeah it does suck and you're right good thing we spotted the flaw right away. We can't wait to work on the car though

Is there a reason why the rear bumper is a tad lighter than the rest of the car? Turned out great overall.

Good eye. I did notice that to in the pictures. Turns out it was the lighting and angle when I took those pictures. I assure you that the color is the same
through out the car. Thanks for tuning in

A little update. I did a little wiring. Wired up my toyota harness to the acura. Still waiting on the car and parts to arrive. Stay tune.

Splice

Butt connect one end of the harness

Slip the heat shrink in

Butt connected the 2 harness together

Heat shrink the tube. This part was SATISFYING!

How it looks after

Sorry I haven't updated this post in a while. We just got the car back a couple weeks ago. We been working on it since and I finally had the time to transfer and upload the photos. Be on a look out for more

Batch 2 package. This arrived about a month ago. Acura Delray hooked us up with the parts and a free Acura Bottle

Working on removing the tint. Quarter and front windows was a straight forward approach ( ammonia cleaner, blade and heat gun ). On the other hand the hatch is a different
story. Not hard but it takes a little bit more time to remove especially if you don't wanna damage the defroster. If you don't care about the defrosters than a razor blade will be your best friend lol

For the removal of the hatch tint you'll need a garbage bag, any cleaner with ammonia, squeegee ( we used business cards. You could use your old credit card ), blades, and
some type of heat. We use the sun for the rear hatch. If you live in colder climates then you need to get some type of heating device like a heat gun ( what we use for the front and quarter windows ). I'm pretty sure you guys know what to do with the tools I mentioned ^^.

Onto the carpet. We hated this process because it took so much time to get where we wanted it to be, aka CLEAN!

Dirty carpets

After 79.57hrs . We're just happy that we got it done. Looks way better than that ^^. I would sleep on it for sure. Maybe with your girl too

Panels, Trims, Dashboard, Console, Misc. All black interior pieces Painted or Application of Black Trim

I took this picture because "LA" is my initials and I did not put it there. I ask my bro and he said he never seen it. If you look at the "LA" initial, it looks like they used a stencil.
Trippy! BTW that's the flip side of the console

Installed NEW OEM SHIFT BOOT. The old one was brittle and looked old

Cup holder mechanism. I find it really interesting

Center Console, Kick Panel, and Misc

Notice the clutch lock. To lazy to grab the key. We've all been there. Random pictures of the progress

Panels, Switches, Clock, Glove Box

AC Control Unit, Vents, Button Switches. BTW this part was a pain in the *** to remove. At least for me it was

Thanks Mike and James. Didn't ask them to buy me this shake but they got me one anyways. Real homies

Waiting to put back on the car. These panels either got Painted or Black Trim was applied

Got the Speed/Tach Meter out. Needs bulb replacement and cleaning

Vents, Clock, Switches, A/C Control Unit, Glove Box, Panels, and MISC Installed. Didn't have the Speed/Tach Meter installed yet. Was working on it at that time

This hole was from the clutch lock. Patch it up with this black rubber mat and double sided tape to hold in place

Panels, Trims, Weather Strip

Installed New Pair of OEM Rear Speakers. The old ones were blown. It use to have subs but we took that out

Quarter Panels

The Gray Quarter Window Panels and Headliner was cleaned with a brush and light mixture of dish soap and water. 15-20% soap and rest is water

Batch 3 Package

Installed New OEM Dust Shift Cover. The old one was torn and brittle

Installed New OEM Wire Harness Cushion. You guys can just use tape if you guys want

Putting the rest of the panels back in. This is where things are coming along. At least the interior side of things

The Door Panels are not installed atm because we're waiting on some parts for the door lock to arrive

MISC

Cleaned up and ready to install

Don't mind the front and rear bumper. That's the old one we have installed on the car. How she's looking atm

Stay tune for more. Now that we got the car back. We will be hard at work and I'll do my best to provide you guys updates on the car.

Thanks again for tuning in,
Ryan/LM

You plan on using an aftermarket radio... why replace the blown rear speakers with OEM parts? I understand you're trying to somewhat restore the car but I dont follow the reason you chose to use a brand new OEM speaker instead of a decent aftermarket set.

Just personal preference. Yes we know that these OEM speakers don't sound that great and if we added little more money we could of gotten a better quality speakers for sure but we chose OEM instead.
And another thing is:
1. This car is a weekend car. Only taken out on events, meets, or to cruise once in a while
2. This car is not intended to compete in any audio/sound events
3. We're ok with how the OEM speakers sounds
4. Again Personal Preference

Thanks for asking,
LM

Wow, great attention to detail. Glad to see these cars are being brought back to life.

I only have two issues with the build and they are only due to my personal preferences. First is the repainting. On your original paint pictures it looked as if the paint was in great shape. Why not have a "Dent Wizard" guy come out and take care of the dents and just color correct the paint?

Second is the speakers as posted above. Why? OEM speakers are insanely expensive and you could had gotten a great replacement for the same $$(or less).

Anyways, let me stop rambling while my project car sits in the garage and you're out there actually working on yours.

The way he feels about the speakers is the same way I feel. It's not in a competition about audio. Plus, the stock audio would be good enough for my ears. Some systems just seem like people want to blow out their ears. Lol.

So if the speakers in your car were blown, you would run to the dealership to purchase a replacement set?

It's not about competition quality sound or anything of that nature...There's more value replacing blown factory speakers with less expensive aftermarket speakers that also improve the sound quality of the system. Heck, i'm sure you can find aftermarket speakers that sound similar to factory for less than what the OP spent at the dealer. I dont think anyone is putting down the OP's choice of parts. After all, this is their build and they're free to do as they wish. Some of us are just curious of the reason for that choice.

I'd argue the fitment of aftermarket speakers versus OEM. Not using adapters and stuff is a nice feeling...

I ask my bro and since he got these speakers about a year ago he can't remember exact. He did say $12-$15 bucks each no more than $20. The acura dealer were we got these speakers from at the moment have these speakers for $11.31

Well in the first couple of photo's when he first got the car the paint all around was in great shape. Few ding's here and there. Maybe the front bumper only needs paint at that time in 08. Fast forward 9 years
later in 2017 lot's have change in terms of the paint and body of the car. Few more ding's and the most common problem sun damage. With that being said roof and hatch had the worst oxidation. Also we decided to shave the doors and quarter panels so that needed hole's filled up with welds and filler. Both front and rear bumper are new. Only thing that could be color correct was fenders and maybe hood. We
actually never thought of color correcting it or it never came to mind and if it did we will still go on the route of painting the whole car from what we're doing with it

Answer to the second question. $12-$15 bucks. They're $11.31 at the acura dealer were we get are parts from

Why is your car sitting in the garage? Get back on the grind man

Good point people have different preference and ears lol

Answered ^^. Also we wouldn't buy these oem speakers if they cost $50 buck a piece. We would go with aftermarket forsure
