thanks. i need to go back and edit that post. I can paint panels when the wife is home. The whole car is just too much. she said it smelled in the house after the first coat and had to leave.

everynight last week i was in the garage making progress.
wetsanded the hood with 2000 then buffed it with a cloth pad. All edges still protected with clear.
new roof moulding clips installed.

Made a gage to check pressure at the gun using leftover parts. I adjust the reg with the trigger pulled on the gun. after pressure is set it's removed.

decided i'd try less fluid when shooting the door jams. spray tests looked good. while trying to level some orangepeelin the clear i burned through a few edges. then i realized the surface was flat and the clear coat was peppered. redid the door jams with the touch up gun.

The first pass over the roof looked like *** and i contemplated putting the gun down and calling it a day, then i decided to get my **** together. layed 3 vertical coats of base and 3 horizontal coats.

3 coats of clear.

I forgot to put the gas cap on. had to spray it seperately.

The last two paint jobs had a cigar shaped pattern in the R door. Finally figured out that when the compressor turned on i'd freeze because i wasn't expecting it. bought some earmuffs and didn't even use them. That fender that i tried to save had more surgeries than Micheal Jackson and it cracked. went to the dealer and got a replacement.

Here is a helpful hint, if you’re putting new rain gutter moldings in let the paint cure for a month before putting them in. I put mine in a few days after I painted the car and one hot day they expanded and cut into the paint, lifting a 6 inch long section of the fresh paint.
car looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! i think my next one will be silver, i was not sure how it would look but you really pulled it off! i also wish i could get my doors lined up as nice as you did.

orangepeel leveled with 1500 wet followed by a light wetsand with 2000.

cheap 7" harbor freight variable speed buffer with 8" 3M foam compounding/polishing pads. evercoat rubbing compoung and dark foam glaze. applied compound with a foam applicator and buffed out at 1700 rpm and repeat. switch pads and used the glaze and the polishing pad. buffed out at 1000 rpm and repeated. sprayed water on the panel afterwards to remove excess polish.

Too much work for not enough gloss so i wetsanded again with 2000 wet.

make sure the fender and hood are secured before wetsanding and buffing. this could have been avoided. the fender hit the hood and chipped.

when positioning panels, non stick tape on the edges can prevent this.

I knew the hood was going to be a problem. still has sanding scratches.

The first pass with base didn't lay down like i hoped. looks uneven in the garage but unnoticable in the sun.

my neighbor just sold his eg hatch and had the rear seatbelts removed when the car was sold.
he dropped them off at the house this evening. The eg seatbelts are in better condition that mine and fit perfectly.
for one less thing needed to rebuild the interior.
Great thread!! I am new to Honda tech and just found you're project. I always liked the 88's and 9's. I have a 93' hatch that is running Scion steelies with the same center caps as yours along with chrome lugs. Great look!
amazing dude ! plain and simple amazing
i think im going to have to respray my car later on bc i have to many chipps in the paint
but thats going to have to wait
that sucks about the finder did you repray them yet?

My hood did the same thing; here is what the paint store jobber told me. Spray the base till you achieve hiding then put a drop coat on top of that. The drop coat is where you pull the gun back and just mist the base over the car, this will feel wrong because you are use to trying to put the paint on smooth and wet, but forget how wrong it feels and just mist the base over it. Let it flash and put the clear down. Here are some picks of a hood I did for a friend using this method.

flatstock aluminum was used to support the ecu. once the ecu cleared that hump on the right, holes were drilled and tapped. factory 10mm bolts are used as fasteners.

excuse the wirenuts.

installed a new denso universal o2 sensor. o2 sensor came with butt connectors, copper anti-seize and heatshrink tubing. $46 for the universal. $92 for a plug and play version.

butt connectors

before and after

The plan after bodywork/paint was to complete the interior and enjoy the car.....
The air compressor failed due to a scored cylinder wall and as a result it wouldn't generate more than 75 psi. I needed air tools and had a bottle of nitrogen laying around. Needed to remove the bitch pin and figured there's a 50/50 chance of it working so...

1000 miles later the homemade leakdown/compression tester was used. I angled the gage so i could sit in the drivers seat and see the display. forgot to add a check valve so the compression tester didn't work.
used nitrogen to do the leakdown test. Found tdc for each cylinder and filled it to 100 psi. pressurizing the cylinder was quite loud so i had to start plugging holes (exhaust, pcv valve, radiator fill and oil dipstick) and listen for differences in the sound. pressure came out of the oil dipstick on cylinder #3 and the intake manifold on cylinder #4
i heard a whirring sound when driving the car. I heard the same noise when the car was idling and it went away when i pushed the clutch pedal to the floor. i've never dealt with this problem and a quick search said inspect the input shaft bearing. during removal i found a crack in the bushing on the side tranny mount and the bearing in the intermediate shaft had too much play. spent two days staring at the tranny, learning the name of each part and how they all worked together. My two problem gears were 3rd and 5th. after cracking the case i found the problem.
1st gear is in good shape.

3rd and 5th gear require replacement.

still working on it. I'm a burnt out ac/refrigeration/chiller tech and it's summertime in florida. after turning wrenches and playing with electrical all day i don't feel like working on the car at the end of the day. plus i'm married with a kid, mortgage/car payment and all the other bills on a single income leaves me with $100 a week if i'm lucky. on the other hand my ef is just sitting in the garage collecting dust. it's really starting to bother me so i'm working on putting an end to that.

I know exactly what you mean... I just got a pretty clean gold(whoo!) 90 civic dx hb a while ago. I'm just itching to start my build. Alas, no cash or time.
