06/17/2015: Picked up my freshly bored & honed B16A2 block and cylinder head from the local machine shop earlier today.

81.5mm bore and block guard installed to keep the sleeves from splitting wide open and damaging my pistons (had that happened before)

Each SRP piston marked for specific cylinders with a piston-to-wall (P2W) clearance of .004"

Refurbished head with standard valve job, new stem seals, Brian Crower steel retainers, and SuperTech dual valve springs installed.

More parts came in today.
Gates standard timing belt & Walbro 255 LPH pump kit for 92-95 Civic

Cast iron EMUSA turbo manifold, exactly the same as Blox

StreetRays head-to-exhaust manifold stud kit

Started to notch/grind the block to clear the turbo compressor housing

Test fitting for clearance between the compressor housing and the block. Fits like a glove now (tight fit!)

Started filing the top 1st piston ring for a ring end gap of .016" and the second ring for a ring gap of .018" for cylinder number 2. Installed 1st top ring and 2nd ring on to the piston, then ran into a somewhat big issue when installing the 3rd/oil-scraper rings. Here's why...

Top ring groove at 1.0mm - standard/OK

2nd ring groove at 1.2mm - standard/OK

3rd ring groove at 3.5mm - NOT OK! (standard is 2.8mm)

Was going to assemble the block, but ran into ^THAT. Based on the numbers etched on the bottom of the pistons, these SRP pistons were custom made. So I emailed SRP/JE with that number, hopefully I can get an answer soon and get the correct oil scraper rings. I'll probably call them tomorrow during my lunch break, or something... ugh!

Pulled the speedo ring gear off the stock differential and installed it on to the new OBX LSD, along with new bearings. Gear set and LSD placed into bell housing. Will finish putting everything else in tomorrow night (if I don't get lazy after work, blah!)

I have not used the OBX LSD before, this will be my first time. From what I've read online, and from the locals here that have been using them, they are worth the money. $400 for a used OEM ITR/CTR LSD that will probably break from moderate-to-high HP drag racing, or $400 a brand new OBX unit that's been proven - I chose OBX because of that, and the fact that it was shipped 5 minutes from where I live, Lol.

Some brand new miscellaneous hardware for the B16 tranny. Still waiting for a few more to come in (clutch release fork, washers, etc).

Brand new OEM bolts installed, and tranny is pretty much done. Hopefully it all works fine when the car is running.

Yeah, I didn't think much of it either, but this is what happens when I have enough extra parts laying around to build another car, Lol

I really have to thank the folks at JE Pistons, especially Darius Tarman, for the very quick e-mail reply (e-mailed at night, replied back the very next morning) to helping me get the correct part/part numbers to address my larger-than-normal oil scraper groove on these custom SRP pistons I have. The correct parts were just simply spacers (that I didn't even know about). The UPS guy just dropped them off about 20 minutes ago, and I opened it up right away to test fit them - PERFECT - to JE Pistons.

Ran into a snag when I assembled the short block. I guess the person (here on HT) that I got my pistons from had no idea what he had (was told they were standard 81mm pistons), so I had to figure it out the hard way - multiple times. Pistons were customized 81.5mm SRP set that needed special oil scraper groove spacers (see previous post), and not only that, after the block was assembled, the pistons were about 2.8mm down the cylinders at TDC! The pistons were shorter than a standard size/height piston would be when I compared it to the stock PR3 piston. Did a little searching and found out that LS/B20 length rods should work based on measurements found. So I ordered a set of new forged 5.394" LS/B20 rods to replace the Eagle 5.290" B16 rods there were installed. Got the block assembled (AGAIN!) with the new 5.394" rods, and now the pistons sits just right below the deck height - perfect.

Here it is all assembled.

Picked up a bag of multiple miscellaneous washers, nuts, and bolts from Acura. This bag of goodies costed almost as much as what I paid for my shell!

Also picked up an Integra/B-Series manual shift linkage and rear transmission mount bracket from a local right after work today.

Just waiting for a few more miscellaneous small items to come in before I can mate the block to the trans, and then bolt it all up to the car. Soon to come

Mod'ing the stock breather box to accept the 1/2" NPT fitting to fit a breather/vent filter for the block.

More miscellaneous nuts/bolts/washers, clutch release fork, and fork boot arrived.

BWR super magnetic drain plugs.

Had these brand new ACT clutch release and pilot bearings sitting around for a few years - finally came to use!

Also had this lightly-used CC Stage 5 4-puck clutch kit sitting around for the past couple of years - putting it to good use again.

Light-weight 10 lbs flywheel (I think. It was a spare that was kept in storage for a few years), CC stage 5 clutch and pressure plate installed.

New clutch release fork and bearing installed.

Brought short block down on this dolly, and installed the B16 tranny.

Starter bolted up, and fork boot installed.

Waiting for some bolts for the half-shaft and alternator brackets to come in before I can install them to the block. Until then, block is taped so I can notch the block just a little bit more for better turbo compressor housing clearance.

What made you go with a iron cast manifold? In my old setup, I was using a RevHard one. It was okay, making decent power, but would have gone with a tubular/ram horn style instead.

Stock sleeves, small turbo, and the fact that it's a 1.6L. I'm not shooting for any big power, so the cast iron manifold will work just fine. 300-350 WHP will be more than enough for what I want to do with this car. My Integra gets the love when it comes to HP, Lol

07.19.2015 - New Energy Suspension polyurethane shift linkage bushings installed.

07.22.2015 - Brand new battery from Honda, shift linkage, ARP head studs, head, OBD1 intake manifold, timing belt, alternator belt, and freshly painted wrinkled red valve cover installed.

Turned in the old JDM ITR 36mm axles (that came with the 5 lug swap) as cores for new/reman '97 Prelude axles, and freshly powder-coated RAL9010 (closest match to Championship White, FWIW) ITR wheels mounted.

Picking up the OBD2 GSR wiring harness from my co-worker from work tomorrow (was suppose to come with the shell when I bought it). Should be ready to fire up really soon!

07.26.2015

FMIC, stock B16A2 throttle body, cold-side piping with BOV, Blox fuel pressure gauge, Russell filter-to-rail fuel line, aluminum radiator, silicone hoses, OBD2 GSR harness, Omni 3-Bar MAP sensor, turbo, turbo manifold, and 1000cc Delphi injectors all installed/mounted.

Close-up of the Garrett T3/T04B (or maybe T3/T04E? I don't know how to tell) 54mm turbo, and the installed B&R Fittings clutch master-to-slave and turbo oil feed braided stainless lines.

Have to trim the other IC pipes as they are a bit too long. Aluminum fan shroud, FPR, extended throttle cable bracket, black multi-ply silicone couplers (to replace the blue ones that came with my IC kit), MSD Blaster 2 coil, and MSD 6AL ignition box are all on the way this coming week. Should be ready to fire the setup soon as I get these parts in!

Got a few more updates with just a minor set-back.

7.29.2015: I didn't like how I originally mounted the FMIC directly underneath the bumper reinforcement bar. I thought I'd have enough room to mount my front bumper cover on without cutting too much of it off, but I was wrong. I'd have to cut off too much of the bumper cover for my liking, so I unbolted the reinforcement bar, used masking tape to mark where I wanted to cut after some measurements, started cutting, and went to the local Home Depot to get a couple of threaded rods and nuts/bolts/washers to re-mount the FMIC. This is the end-result:

Much better!

MSD goodies arrived! MSD 6AL ignition box, Blaster coil 2, distributor cap, rotor, and coil mount.

Got the fan and shroud combo, and mounted them to the radiator:

Trimmed some of the cold side IC piping and bolted them up:

8.2.2015: Filled all of the fluids; coolant, engine oil, and transmission oil. Installed all of the MSD ignition goodies, hooked up all grounds and battery cable, and the car fired right up without any hiccups (minus the minor coolant leak, that was my fault for not tightening one of the clamps), or DTC's. (Quick Instagram video below here)

After about a few fan cycles (I think about 30 minutes) after this video, the car progressively started smoking. Noticed that the smoke was bluish and turned off the car after the smoke got worse. I looked under the turbo and noticed a small pool of oil. After the car cooled down, I pulled off the down-pipe and noticed oil all over the exhaust housing and wheel - bad exhaust side oil seal. So much for buying a used turbo in "good condition."

So that's that. Contacted Phil @ Spoolin' Performance to place an order for a brand new Garrett T3/T04E Stage 3 60 trim turbo, wastegate elbow, and dump tube that same night.
