i could be done, but i would be very weary about it considering the zex cam has a lot more lift than stock.

you should be fine with stock retainers. i've been running my cam with comp springs and stock retainers for about 8k miles now with no probs

you can run it with stock valvetrain if you stay at stock redline

you can run whatever cams you feel like without changing the valvesprings or retainers as long as you don't change your redline, now making optimal power is another story....your decision on cams will affect almost every other modification on your car, well I guess they all do but I think cams are really important.

Stock Y8 valvesprings are plenty of spring even at 9200 rpms. Just get some good ti retainers to replace the stock powdered metal retainers.

Rocket has tested the stock springs and if he says they are up to the task, than they are.

I remember seeing the stock spring specs somewhere, but I cant find it right now. They were sufficient enough stock to handle any streetable cam.

Thanks.

I haven't tested it but I am working with some D guys right now and they have run Y8, Crane and Zex to 9200 rpms on stock springs and retainers, no problems so far.

FYI: Stock Z6/Y8 springs have excellent pressure and lift capablity due to their configuration and length. Couple that with the smaller D valve and this gives you alot of spring for stock and perf. applications. Whereas the stock BVTEC is lacking in this dept.

not true not true.... theres a couple factors that affect how well a valve spring can keep up, how fast its being compressed and uncompressed (engine RPM) and how far down the spring is being compressed due to the lift of the cams.

Yep yep.

Generally speaking increasing HP per cylinder requires more spring pressure.

so if i changed my revlimit [now at 7200, pg7 ecu with vafc2] to about 8200, and had the zex cam, i wouldnt have to change the valve springs or retainers? correct?

edit: just change the retainers to ti?
