i started my car up and realized that the exhaust vavles on the number 2 cylinder wheree bent or stickin, so i did a compression test and it came

0 being the one closest to the timing belt.

the 15 is where the valves are messed up,

but my question is how is the number one cylinder reading zero?

i just rebuilt this motor and put new rings and bearings

could it be that the head isn't torque down?
i'm using arp head bolts and torque all of them to 70 so what could be the problem

o yea, i had the block deglazed by a machine shop and i'm using oem rings

Pull the head & have it inspected.

Pull the head off and inspect it. If you have bent valves...replace them
I would also check to see how the piston rings are seated still.


Edit: make sure don't have anything else holding the head up by the timing belt...check the make sure the dowel pin is seated correctly

Ok head looks like it sittin flush but I'm gonna take the head off and have it inspected. How can u tell if the rings are seated?

I doubt this is the case, but if the head gasket was blown between 3 and 4, both cylinders will read near 0.

who did the valve adjustment.........check it

if it was just a valve adjustment wouldn't it be reading something not just zero? i'm gonna retorque the head bolts right now and see if that works

not always...if the valve adjustment is non existant then the valve will be open all the time.......in otherwords.....if there is no clearance between the rocker and the cam then the valve will be open at all times.....just check to be sure thats all.

Good idea to try str8drift...did you find out what the problem was?

Why are you still doing compression tests if you know that you have bent valves? You said in the original post that the motor is fresh, but then you said that you have bent valves on #2 cylinder. Why are you still troubleshooting the motor? If you have bent valves, fix the problem.

In his first post he wasnt even sure if it was bent....how would he know with out checking first.....atleast he is trying to find out what the problem is.....

In his first post he says that he "started the car up and realized that the exaust valves on the #2 cylinder were bent". I was curious as to why he is doing compression tests if he knows that the valves are bent? This is all besides the point.

Throw down the compression gauge and do a leakdown test. If the valves are bent, pull the head and fix the problem.

ok the valves are bent in the number 2 cylinder i'm not checking the compression on that one...i'm trying to figure out why i'm get zero compression on the number 1 cylinder which has no bent valves.

I guess now we need to know how you have come to the conclusion that the valves are bent in #2 and not #1.....
