Re: THE VALVE TRAIN POLL (racer4life)
i noticed that the more expensive valvetrains got less or no votes. while i'm sure supertech and rocket work just fine i think this poll is biased towards the more affordable ones.

That's why I run your springs in my Honda.
Let me know if you make some for Ferraris, my Enzo needs some new ones.

Some of the good stuff seems to be rather low on the list and others that are less desirable are up top? Who is voting here?
Also, I'm not referring to anyone in particular. I personally have no experience with Rocket stuff so my comments are directed elsewhere.

Re: (EVOL)
Just curious, what makes the valve train good? Do companies just set the specs and get them manufactured somewhere. Is it the specs or the manufacturing that makes it good?

Re: (redGSRguy)
1) You start with good steel bar (chrome silicon steel is the main alloy here) then draw it to valve spring quality wire. Then the wire is checked for cracks. There are a couple specifications for this. Also specify decarb. Once that is kosher then.
2) You set your coil configuration so that the your xx percentage below the UTS of the wire at a certain compression.
3) You specify critical tolerances such as squarness, soild hieght, fit over dimension, fit in dimension.
4) The springs need to be stress relieved for about 0.50 hours at 800F to remove residual stress. This will tighten up the coils a little.
5) Then you have them shot-peend/vibratory polish
6) Then have them heat set to minimize settling upon usage.
7) Then apply a rust inhibitor. (Note: do not run rusty springs. That a no no.)

Re: THE VALVE TRAIN POLL (Michael Delaney)
here's a question for the people in this poll:
if the spring has the wrong installed and coil bind heights, does it really matter what brand you like?
what I'd like to know is who are the suppliers to the middle man?

My Cambodian is a little rusty but I am working on it. And i do not think anyone on here would pay for Schmithelm springs and Ret.

LOL is that a little sweat shop company that makes valvesprings from old bedsprings in Cambodia? Should we add it to the poll? LOL
