tuning my exhaust extension...
well, I'm bored....really bored. i just changed my oil, rotated my tires, put in a hurst shifter (it was free damnit), and some other little things...and now I'm to my exhaust.
I have a 3" section that's about 3 odd feet long and it fits my car, but it was tuned for a 245whp race engine...but, I am a little bit more mild than that I'm 11.1:1 and making mid 190's whp. I haven't installed my cams or gotten my head work yet...but I'll have that done very soon.
so, the question.....should I go ahead and tune/cut it to length...or wait until i have the head work and cams installed? I mean, in all honesty i could just get another pipe made...but this one is "special." So, will it change the needed lenght that much with just cams and headwork? Will it need to be shorter before or after?

Re: tuning my exhaust extension... (ITRswapandslow)
I'm doing the same thing...kinda. 2.5" OD with a 90 deg turn-down.
To figure out my length, I'm gonna have a 2.5" mild steel tube made up into two parts (using expanded rear sections of varying lengths with a clamp) so I can interchange them quickly at the dyno.
That's about all I can offer you. I haven't been able to talk to anybody at length who knows much at all about it even tho you'd think it'd be a common thing to do.
I'd definitely get the pipe length-tuned after the cams and headwork. The cams in themselves will affect the peak efficiency rpm.
You can try his pipe out at the very least, but only in comparison with a baseline with a full-length exhaust.
