Storing track car for winter... with E85?
Hi guys, Im about to put my track car away for the winter and pull the engine. This is the first year I have used E85 and I was wondering if its ok to leave a half a tank of E85 over the winter or should I pull the tank and drain it?

NO. it is not. you need to drain it, and use a gas drier like Stabil into the fuel system. This is where the corrosive properties kick in. Many say its "arguable", but when it comes to long term storage, burn it off, dump it, whatever, but get it out of that fuel system for winter storage.
Depending upon the chassis you have, there are drain plugs in the tanks of DC2s, and I believe EGs as well. You may not need to pull the tank to drain it.

Drain all the E85 out of the car, then put about a gallon of supreme (91 octane) gas in the tank and run it until the car starts to run rich and you're good. Adding a little fuel stabalizer couldn't hurt either.

OK cool thanks guys, its a EM1 so I might just drop the tank. I have a fuel cut on it so I just gut the fuel and let the everything in the lines run dry and then drop the tank. what about just storing E85 in the approved containers? does it gum up like gas. Im in Utah so the weather gets a bit chilly out here.

Your EM1 has a bolt in the bottom driver side of the gas tank I believe to help drain it. I wouldn't store the fuel so much as I would try and burn it in something else. Sitting around in your cars fuel system (from injectors back to the pump) isn't good for any fuel over time which is why regular gasoline is a good way to flush it and is easy to get out in the spring.

e85 is not recommended to store for a long period of time as it creates moisture waters down so to say. i have ran it in my evo 8 and i only use stored e85 less then like month and half old ,just to be safe ..they have different blends winter and summer blends and such so sometimes ethonal content lowers and not consistent ..usually e85 gums and eats fuel lines depending on the material of it. e85 drys yellow also and faster then normal gas. i would just run fresh e85 from pump to be safe ..
