Default Fuel Economy

I've always thought that honda motors were known for good fuel economy...
For some reason, i think my car is worse than my mom's chevy venture on fuel.
i dont understand why my gas is wasted so quickly! Yes, our cars have small tanks... but there has to be a reason why my car "EATS GAS".

Example:
Going to visit my friend who lives 1-1/2 hrs away at a university, i had half a tank of gas. cruised there at about 140km/h. when i got there... i had literally NO GAS.
Coming back to my house was the same story....

I checked under my car to see if there were any visible leaks on the gas tank, but it seemed to be perfectly fine... also, i didnt smell any fuel. every oil change i dump in those "fuel injector cleaners" in my gas to see if it helps. This didnt help at all... and it has been about 3 months since that time.

I understand that i use more fuel if i frequently floor my car... but oddly even if i try to "baby" my car, it seems like im using MORE gas than flooring it.

What should i do? PLEASE HELP ME. I'd appreciate any kind of help. TIA

If your gauge read 1/2, you really only had 1/3.

The only way to determine mileage is to FILL IT, drive it, FILL IT AGAIN, (preferably at the exact same pump) note the gal, note the miles driven, and divide the miles by the gallons.

1 tank is not really a good enough example, a good example would be to do that 10X in a row and then average them.

You may look like a cheap bastard writing down numbers as you fill up, but at least you'll know exactly how many miles/gal you're getting.

also try replacing your O2 sensor if you already havent and do a simple tune up such as wire/plugs/cap/rotor. i did that and it tremendously raised my MPG from 23 to 33.

I have an '88 Dx w/ZC DOHC. I average 30-32 MPG when flogging it and 35-36 when I am driving sane. Check your MPG or in your case Liters/KM it may be a bad gauge reading. When its empty, on the gauge, how much fuel to fill it back up.
