Quality cast aluminum street n/a manifold priced well with great features.....
what else were you expecting?
If no one has tested one in spring time on a 1.8L, i have a couple 230+whp oem bottom end combo's that are on virgin PX's that could use a little more power.

Very large difference in the way that manifold is made compared to this. Im sure thats going to play a large difference in the way it performs, but like i said, im waiting for the results, lets see how it does.

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
Can you explain further? I've personally yet to see a design very much like this in a cast mass produced piece. Are you saying its generic in design or in its casting process? What i see in the design at the end of the runners is the same kind of thing i've tested when hand porting RBC manifolds and have seen gains on. I can't speak for its gains or losses on the dyno YET, but coming from a guy who lives on a dyno and tests everything he gets his hands on.....i gotta say that i like this design. I'm not arguing your opinion...i'm just curious on how this manifold is viewed as a piece of **** or generic?

An extrude hone would be nice on that thing. The casting looks rough as all hell! I'd at least do a casting cleanup on the velocity stack portion and as far into the runners I could get without cutting.

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
Thanks for uploading the pictures I put them up on the first post so we can compare.
my opinion:
Looks pretty good I see two things that could be improved but overall I still am impressed with the product. 1) The casting looks rough but still looks better than some other manifolds. 2) Transitions look somewhat tight between runners. I still like the product though for the price and the features. Its got removable plenum, tapered plenum, velocity stacks, and don't forget universal bolt pattern all at affordable price. No other manifold on the market has all these features in one design for under $400.
In response to the size of the runners I speculate skunk2 sized it smaller so accommodate smaller builds

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
Here's where my car was last I put it on the dyno though I expect it will be higher with ID1000. Before I put the ultra on I will retune it to get a fair comparison.
84x89
12:1 c/r
ported b16 head
rc550 @ 95% on E85
Pro series manifold
68mm throttle body

wonder if it was designed like the automobiles.
first develop the top of the line model.
crapify the design so it looks shitty and performs worse. spending more time and research.
then sell it for cheaper in order to keep the inflated price on the top model that cost manufacturer less money to develop than base model.

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
becasue then people wouldnt buy the more expensive version.
i swear i saw this somewhere not too long ago.same strategy that was even admited by a company that made the product.
few examples would be:
early CPU models were overclockable and stable. locked on next version so people buy more expensive cpu
certain cell phones. could be loaded with firmware from another model LOCKED with next update by manufacturer.
media players that were hacked to increase functionality that was never intended by manufacturer(even though the hardware supported it 100% stable) locked with software update without ability to downgrade.next version released with desired specs and support dropped for older model so people buy the newer model. but it was too late and people turned away from that company and never bought the new model because of the **** the company pulled on its customers... major fail then they cried and lowered the prices considerably to get rid of overstocked products
2 similar headphones are released. cheaper ones are tested and have very good specs. they get too popular and other models dont sell. they get pulled off the market and rebranded under different model name and sold for higher price next year.
if a cheaper model is very close to the top end and can be easily modified to perform like the more expensive one then people would do it and not buy the top end model...
just how it is

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
I don't see the relevance. I highly doubt this was a "reject" design that is aimed at sloppy seconds. Manifolds are not one size fits all. The ultra line looks more comparable to the edelbrock line of the VX and PX seeing as they each were specifically built to try and suit certain setups.

Re: Skunk2 Ultra series "Street" manifold Pics
i think its designed for honda tech lol
if they just released the ultra then people would bash skunk 2 again for not making it cheap enough lol. and if they released jsut the crappified version then the "baller racers" would complain how shitty the design is and bash skunk2 for not making it good enough.

Haha I can appreciate the skepticism. I'm at times impressed by what they can do with marketing. It serves a purpose though.
