Re: A.R.P head stud question (Jdmb16sir2)
My card that cam with my GE studs:
1) Torque to 25ft-lb
2) Torque to 50ft-lb
3) Loosen each nut 1/2 turn one at a time and retorque to 50ft-lb. Do this 3 times to each stub
4) Torque to 72ft-lb
I'd also suggest retorque after you first run the engine.

Re: A.R.P head stud question (stumpyf4)
I call arp yesterday and i was told for a b18c5 to use these specs.
1st 20lbs 2nd 40lbs last 65lbs using their mono lube. Then loosen all the nuts and re torque them back to 65lbs. Something about crushing the washers. Does those specs sound correct?
I also tighten in this sequence
73159
842610
is that correct

Re: A.R.P head stud question (Jago)
stumpys is actually the safer way of doing it, it makes sure the torque is what it is after 3 times of tightening you cant get it wrong but definitely follow the oem specs...all good info posted here

I used arp torque spec and the honda manual procedure. make sure the threads in the head are super clean, and i didn't loosen anything off just make sure you use alot of the moly lube, oh yeah I alos torqued the actuall studs to 7 psi thats what they liked for some reason I wanted to make sure the studs were bottomed out. I also never re torqued the studs contrary to what everyone says becase I check them after 2500 miles of beating the crap out of it and they were perfectly torqued

Sounds good to me.
I think the loosen procedure is important to make sure everything is seated and you get repeatable measurements/toque. This will be my first build and I will take the time to pull the cams and retorque after the first warmup cycle. FWIW They defintely don't do this at the Honda engine plant but I will.
