Power gains from Mugen N1 ECU for B16b
Does anyone know approximately what the gains are w/ this ECU? Dyno sheets would be great!!! The motor has the above mentioned ECU, Injen CAI, JDM 4-1 header, 2.5 inch exhaust and Mugen Twin Loop muffler. I would love to compare dyno's but this is the only ECU I have.
Thanks,
Zach

Most aftermarket ecu roms don't have much done to them except a modified revlimit, vtec activation & added fuel accross the board.
Besides that, the timing maps are usually the same as a factory p30 map etc.
In otherwords, you may see a midrange gain, peak numbers will probably be the same.

Re: (fastfour)
you should be looking at about 3-5 hp gains, but you'll feel a significant difference in the cars whole powerband. ecu tunning is key to every cars success, and when you get an ecu tuned by the masters, Mugen, you cant go wrong.

Re: (303TopSecret)
Every aftermarket (performance) JDM ECU that I have seen has not impressed me. For example, I just did a JDM GSR for a customer. Came with aftermarket cams, 2 layer head gasket, ported throttle body. The swap came with a Mines ECU. After the swap I put it on the dyno and the graph was horribly choppy with a peak hp of 155. I swaped the ecu with a USDM b16 and the results were night and day. Graph was perfectly smooth, tourqe stayed consistant from 2k-7.5k, and peak hp was 170.
I assume the reason for this is that the condiotions in which they tune in Japan, are very different than here in the states.
Any opions?

Re: (CompressionFed)
I doubt the Mugen ECU is anything like that. I've ridden in/driven several swapped civics and the car pulls very well and the delivery feels very smooth. Guess i just need to hit a dyno.

It was probably detonating. JDM tunes are done using 100 octane 'pump gas' which is available in Japan. When you try to run it on 93 or less, it will run like assmonkey. We even try to run JDM ecu's (spoon, mugen, etc...) on the 95 octane we get here and they run like crap.... same goes for stock Evo's, Skylines, etc... if it came from japan, it's tuned for 100+.... anything less would be uncivilized...

I'm not really opposed to anything. This is just what the car is equipped /w now.

the gains arent going to be significant. sell it for 600 and get a hondata setup. Just blowing smoke out my *** on the HT bandwagon? nah....had an ITR with a mugen ecu. I made more power on a stock ecu then i did on the mugen, both tuned with a vafc.
