Alright, my current set up consists of a b18c1 with itr valvetrain, blox intake mani, omnipower 70mm tb, 3 inch intake and blox velocity stack, dc header and a catback.

My question is, would it be worth swapping out the itr cams for blox type b cams? I have s200 but not installed yet. Also, would the ITR springs and retainers be ok with these cams? Oh, and are adjustable cam gears a must?

i would upgrade the springs. If the retainers have relatively low miles on them you should be ok with them. The cam gears aren't a must but if you want to get the most power out of the setup you really should get a set

 

im curious why u have a 70mm tb on a na setup with a dc header? that is the worst header i have ever owned but thats my opinion

 

Blox B is a good fit if you have ITR vavletrain. I just had a set of Blox B cams put into my ITR motor about 2 months ago and it is a BEAST!!! MY SETUP: 96 JDM ITR motor with USDM ITR honed out intake manifold with blox 68mm throttle body port and match. AEM 3'inch intake with blox v stack, RMF Narrow header with 2 1/2 piping with straight pipe, and Blox B cams with stock ITR valve Train. Can't wait to get it dyno tune with my P28 chip I just bought.....

I say if you have a good price on those Blox B cams get it. It's well worth it. I haven't have any trouble with it yet with my stock valve train. Just don't rev over your stock rev.

 

You will, and when you destroy your engine from dropping a valve and have to spend a couple grand rebuilding it, you can take comfort that not spending $200 on a proper set of valve springs was worth it...

 

Well, im working on getting a High End Tri Y Header, the dc was on the motor when I bought it. The tb, well it was cheap and atually, it does pull noticably harder than the stock one, although, when I installed it, i did install the 3inch intake and velocity stack(with filter) as well.

What valvesprings shall I buy.

 

Blox are about $120 and seem OK from what people say. Supertech is also a good buy and maybe better quality.

 

Ok I ordered the cams, im about to order the blox dual valve springs, do i need to buy new retainers or will the itr ones be ok?

 

i'd do a full valve train upgrade with any cams personally. get the extra peace of mind for a couple hundred bux

 

like i said before if your retainers dont have high mileage on them i'd keep them personally.

 

Yeah they are somewhat low, as long as they don't look fuxored, ill leave them. I ordered the blox dual's and the blox type b's. Gonna wait a little for some adj cam gears and then install it all at once.

Ok found a set of unorthadox racing cam gears, now. Has anyone had any experience with the blox type b's or a comparable camshaft? Wondering when the start to not make power and also, how high cold i rev my motor..

The Blox B's are a copy of the skunk2 stage 2 tuner cams so looking at dyno graphs with those cams will give you an idea how they'll perform. You'll be able to rev your engine as far as it needs to go to make power.

Right on, since the closest dyno to me is about 2 hours away. Any idea how this setup will run without a tune? Would i be better off getting a basemap from phearable.net? Would it run better or worse than it is now without a tune. Just curious, thanks guys.

Cams are a waste without a tune. Might as well plan on a drive to KC to get that s200 tuned. A basemap could get you by for a little while but be careful running off basemap unless you have a way of monitoring A/F.

Anyways, i've been doing some research, which is the best way to go.

ectune, Neptune, hondata.. phearable.net chipped ecu?

If I buy a chipped ecu, when I take it to a tuner, do I need any more equipment for them to tune it, or do they just hook their **** to my ecu?
I really don't know how the tuning side of this works, what-so-ever.
I'm a noob on the tuning side of hondas..

I don't have the s200 anymore, i sold it to a guy on HT.. dumb I know, I wasn't thinking about it at the time.

LOL that's how I know it's worthless! I'm keeping the revs low until I get tuned to keep the engine safe (the primary lobes are very similar between aftermarket cams and GSR cams).

I'm going to be DIY tuning myself this spring/summer. I'm going with Neptune RTP (it comes with a Neptune license, Neptune hardware, and a Moates Demon emulator board that plugs in instead of a chip). Otherwise all you need is a wideband kit (assuming you already have an OBD1 ECU with harness). I got a pretty good package deal on all the hardware from Xenocron.

If you aren't going to tune yourself, call your local tuners and find out whether they use Hondata, Neptune, or Crome. Then get quotes from Phearable, Xenocron, or JK Tuning on the necessary hardware and software. If you tell them what you have, they'll tell you what else you need.

If you go the DIY route, Neptune is probably the best way to go. You'll also need a good wideband gauge to DIY tune.

 

From what i was told the blox a's are pretty much like the ITR's, which i currently have and am running on no tune and it pulls very nice. So go on and open her up! haha

On a second note, i was looking at the neptune RTP package from pherable, and its 399 and its also 399 from HRTuning.com, im gonna do some more research about it throughout the week and then prolly order the RTP..
