This is not the best formula. But it is close.
Required VE= (9411x BHPx BSFC ) / (disp.x RPM). There is more to it. But this is OK.

Modified by DonF at 5:23 PM 10/19/2008</TD></TR></TABLE>

forgot the detail one by one,
but the total head chamber cc + gasket volume cc - piston top (dome) cc = 37.9cc

bore 86 x stroke 95 the displacement was 551cc each (2200cc)

CR -- &gt; = (551/37.9) + 1 = 15.55 : 1 CR

-------------------
Ok, Don Thanks a lot for the VE formulla..

BTW, how is the limit of Dynamic CR for racing fuel such as C16....

btw anybody ever try Elf powerboost?? C16 out of stock in here, wanna try the ELF but affraid of knocking...

We took control of the engine building this year and designed (very long) lightweight steel rods for it. The engine saw months of development on our dyno, and the program was wildly successful...with one exception. Regardless of modification to the dyno, we were never able to run the engine over 11,500 rpm (where power was still climbing). We are having a gearbox built for the dyno that will reduce the rpm the brake will see so we can continue our development work.
As of today, the engine is in the car, and it's scheduled to make a shake-down run Sunday.
....and yes, with 17-1CR, and rules-mandated slow-burning C16 fuel, the engine carded many pulls with VE's ranging from 135-137% from 8000rpm up. </TD></TR></TABLE>

How did the shake down run go on Sunday?

They told me that they made a single aborted run at 8.62 at 155. The track was so slick that the car was sideways most of the run, however, the report also said that the engine pulled to 11,800 effortlessly. They plan to try again this coming weekend, track conditions permitting. No broken rods for once, which is aso good.

Sorry, a lil bit OOT...

since there was a lot of maestro (Don, Combustion Contraption, ENDYN, Greg Cheetah, etc) in here that talking about things that related to thermal efficiency..
so i want to ask about something about it

it was about a system that using Dry Ice vapor that sucked into motor.. (i dont know what it called, but i've seen a guy using it on their V8 Hotrod motor and offroad motor)

i know that cold temperature from the Dry Ice could reduce the air intake temperatur and it increasing performance, since a cold air was having a lot mass on its density... increasing VE a bit

but how about the CO2 contain that Dry Ice got? i think it hurting the combustion efficiency....

and how is the effect on internal motor? since there was extreme rapid temperature change whenever the motor combusted on its normal temperatur and then suddenly a very cold vapor goes into the combustion chamber??
will it destroy the internal things inside the combustion chamber??

any detail info or "how to" about this system??? im interesting about this, and plan to use this thing on my motor if i could have a more information that support about this system..

Thank U..

Stuff looks nice but tell Larry he should have at least used a new water tube on that IM. Looks like he took it off an old EF that was sitting out in a field in Canada.

It's called thermal cycling. Read somewhere Rolls-Royce used to bury the engine blocks in the field and let it cycle through hot and cold seasons to "season/stress relieve" da blocks.

Rolls-Royce fo da win!!!

I'm a little curious about this. Given stock bore spacing, that leaves 5mm of material between each cylinder. The head was o-ringed so why not punch the bore out more? Also curious how much the head o-ringing helps with seal.

If the engine's displacement (89mm x 84mm) was increased, we'd have to add more weight to the car, which would affect performance adversely.

Got to wait a couple more years for the kids to get a little older and we'll be back. On the road to Hana.

the 8.12 ET wasn't fast enough to "Backup" the 7.996 ET Record

but the 7.996 ET was fast enough for the 8.12 ET Record at that time

NHRA wrote it Officially down as a Record at 7.996 ET on NHRA Site
then later notified Del the Official had made a mistake
and the Record was put back to 8.120 ET from 7.996 ET

about a Month later or so Del went 8.05 ET which at the time was
good enough to reset the Record
and the other run was fast enough to backup the 8.05 ET,
but Del decided not to reset it...i forgot exactly the reason why,
but ask Del .

the Head was originally ported by Del
then i re-Ported it and picked up the Flow Numbers quite a bit
and changed up the velocity FPS Profile in the Head.

When Del went 7.996 , 8.120 Record F/D, and the 8.05 ET
was with the Head Ported by Meaux Racing Heads (myself )

Larry Widmer ( Endyn ) is now working with Del
and has Ported Del a new Cyl-Head, maybe even 1 or 2 more by now ?
Del's had his Engine at Endyn and on Endyn's Dyno .

Del said Larry's a super great extremely knowledable Engine Builder / Head Porter
and Larry and Del are working together to get back the F/D Record soon !

The Dragster's been plagued for quite awhile by many weird electrical/mechanical
problems...but it shouldn't take them long to solve all of them !

Any updates?
What about the 14,000rpm you were previously hoping to acheive? So far it looks like the highest is 11,800. IRL only rev to 10,300. How much higher are their springs good for?

I guess nothing came of this? The newest record for F/D is 8.02 set on 05/24/08 by Al Ackerman.
