well, it depends on what you want.
i really like the TSX, great car and excellent build. the TSX will give you alot more goodies for the price. plus, its a honda. it is fwd though.
the C240 4matic is another great car. you won't have the performance of the TSX, the small V6 is for cruising. the 4matic system is absolutely wonderful, better than quattro, bmw's system, subaru's system. personally, i wouldn't buy a C-class, i've thought about getting the coupe. but, compared to our 1988 190(predecessor to C-class) and our E-320 4matic, they are pieces of crap. mercedes quality on the C-class has gone down because they wanted to lower the price. it is in its last full year, so i'm sure any bugs there were, have been worked out. now, before i talk you out of a mercedes, i will tell you one reason why you should consider it: safety.
we were in a pretty horrendous accident in the E-class a month ago. smashed by two suv's on ice and my mom and i got out ok. the car was totaled. but the way they build those things is absolutely amazing. and you get a nice break on the insurance also.
unless you live in deep snow or need awd year round, get the TSX and put some snow tires. i prefer rwd and awd in snow, but i put some michelin artic alpins on the integra, and it is great. we have michelin alpin pilots on the two mercedes and those are sweet tires.
lastly, for a great benz forum, check out http://www.benzworld.org
and you may want to check out some of the starmark E320 4matics. they may be a little more, but you're getting alot more car.

I know. Horsepower isn't everything. AWD is what has me considering.
The C230 is a 4 cyl where as the 240 is 6. The reason is has more is beacuse it comes standard with a Kompressor engine (supercharged)
