04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I have a 2004 TSX bought it with 15,000 miles in early 2005 changed the oil around every 5,000 miles car ran great until about 6 months ago it started using about 1.5 qts of oil every 600 miles took it to the dealer, they had the car for 6 weeks befor they told me it would need a new short block. The car just turned 70,000 miles and now it needs $8,000 dollers worth the work. Acura USA said they would pay 50% of the cost and that it was a very generous offer. It's my understanding that this is a factory defect. I do not won't to pay anything because there was nothing I did to cause this problem.
This was a time bomb wating to go off. My extended worenty was up in May of this year. Thats right only 2 months ago, Acura at this time was doing an oil consumption test and now the extended warrenty wont cover any of the work? Still fighting with Acura USA need to know of any others having same problem now or befor. I was under the impression i was going to get 200,000 miles or more out of this car. I just spent $800 dollers on the 60,000 mile check up the said the car was like new. Then when I had the oil changed 5,000 miles later they asked if I would like cabin air and moter air filter changed I said Acura just did and they laughed and said the cabin filter was original and the air filter had more then 5,000 miles on it. So much for that great Acura service, sory so long
might need to take some action im sure there has been a lot of money and time spent on this issue.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
hey guys i have a 04 6spd i bought it in dec of 2011 so like 7 months and i have the same prob. I got it with 124k on it and now have 141k i was working in brooklyn so its 220 miles round trip. I change the oil every 3-3500 miles im kinda old school and use syn oil mobil 1. I drive it but dont beat it all the time.
I love my tsx best money i every spent but im getting frustrated because along with so many others have not found the answer to the million dollar question, Why does the k24 motor burn oil. No one i speak to whether its a acura tech of a top of the line engine builder.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what we as tsx owners can do to lower the consumption.
Thanks in advance and this is a great post

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
So, isn't this the same engine that Honda puts in the Accord, Element and CRV? Are there reports of high oil usage on those vehicles?
I have an '03 Accord with 150k and it uses no oil. My car was built in OH unlike the TSX but I'm not sure if all the K24s are sourced from the same place or if that even makes a difference.
I would like to get into a TSX in the future, but this issue makes me pause and think..

i got my 04 6mt tsx 4.5 years ago w/100k on it. right now she has 198k i would say she burns about half a quart to a quart at the most every 5k miles. shes does get beat on here and there but i dont drive like an *** hat all the time. the only thing ive ever had to replace was the Ac comppressor.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
i thought i was crazy! thank god im not the only one. i have the same issue with my 04 tsx. i have 109k in it and it burns oil like its going out of style. the car was owned by only one person before me and was serviced at an acura dealer for all its maintenance. i run 5w30 synthetic and have to add about 4 quarts between a 3000 mile oil change interval. oil looks like diesel oil after 3000miles. other than the oil consumption problem i really like the car but because of this single issue i am completely disappointed with this car. before this car i owned several hondas, and was a die hard honda fan. i swore i would only buy honda or acura vehicles. i plan on selling this vehicle and have been exploring other manufacturers now because of this. i would not recommend a tsx to anyone.

Same here. 04 TSX w/ 135,000. Burns all 5 quarts in about 3000. I have to keep a closer eye on it. Check Engine Oil light tipped me off. This should really be a recall by Acura. My 99 Accord never had an issue, clear to 185 K miles when I sold it.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
there is a service bulletin on the issue and we did one at our dealership a few weeks ago, consists of replacing piston rings
Ill see if I can make a PDF link on it. If enough people complain about it they make a recall on it
(my TSX is the same way)

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
its a matter of enough people making a complaint about it to put it as a class action law suit like many other issues that have been done before

that would be awesome. I guess its a matter of finding a lawyer and showing enough signatures to get the lawyer on board and get it started. Anyone have an attorney on retainer around here? lol

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I have a 2004 with 170k on it currently. Bought it in 2008, drove it for a year, then my father drove it until a few weeks ago and I got it back. I remember my father commenting on the problems with oil consumption but it could of not of been that bad because he would of gotten this checked out.
I just changed the oil at 169,000, i will check back to let everyone know what the consumption is. I'm 22, definatly have a heavy foot, but I dont rev this car much past 4k. I need it to last as long as possible so I just stay off the throttle.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
I am about to buy a tsx but this is kind of scaring me! I see mentions of 06 motors being the solution so I am assuming 05's are having the same issue as the 04? I am wanting to get rid of my gs300 due to the headache it has been and don't want another project.

Re: 04 TSX Oil Consumption Issues
Hey guys. Sorry to have brought this thread back from the dead. I have not been on HT for a while and honestly forgot about the thread. Anyway its good to see that there seems to be some new info surfacing about this. Does anyone have that TSB info? After fighting with the dealer and my warranty running out I just ended up getting rid of the car and have sworn off another TSX. It is a shame because I really liked the car. From what some people have said the issue is with 04-05 which ironically my replacement engine was from an 05. Anyway, hope some solution comes out of this.
