Oil Leak
OK Honda and Acura people I need some advice. I have a 1997 Acura CL 3.0 V6 with 140k, it is my commuter car and I love it! I recently took it for some routine maintenance (timing belt, etc.) and my mechanic informed me that the car has an oil leak (must not be leaking much I have not seen any oil in my parking spot) and he says its leaking where the oil pump connects to the engine and that it’s a $400+ fix. I will definitely have it fixed but I need to wait it out a month or two before I can afford to spend the cash. Any suggestions on what I can do to help the situation until I can get it fixed? Additives? Certain brand or type of oil? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Oil Leak
There is no real way to stop a leak unless you change the gasket thats causing the issue.
The only real deterrant is to keep a watchful eye on your oil levels. I highly recommend NOT adding any additives to your oil.
I'd say check it every day before you leave to go anywhere. Make sure your engine is COLD of course. Make sure the oil you are adding (if you have to add any) is the same weight as the oil you have in the car. This should hold you over until it is fixed. Have you had a second opinion to verify that the leak is coming from the oil pump?

Re: Oil Leak
Lower engine seal are leaking which consists of oil pump seal (o ring), crank seal, oil filter housing gasket. If you have not replace your timing belt I suggest you do that while you are replacing those seals because the timing belt, oil pump and oil pan will have to be removed. I am assuming this leak is on the crank pulley side running down the oil pan and the oil filter housing. The transmission side may be leaking too from the rear main seal, o ring and torque converter seal.
