1986 Honda Civic Wagon overheating
My wagon has started to over heat. We have replaced the thermostat, the water pump seems to be fine (it is not gushing water) the rad is a new one. We found out that the one hose to the heating coil was warm the other cold. This would seem to me that there is a blockage in the heating coil. We by passed that so that the coolant (water right now) would circulate without going into the heating coil. The temp gauge reads really hot. The fan is hard wired in so it runs when ever the car is started. Any ideas?

When I had my wagon it was the t-stat sticking.
You may want to check the radiator and take it to Jiffy lube and have them do a coolant flush

when the engine is cold, use a 12mm wrench to open the bleeder nipple on top of the water outlet where the top radiator hose connects. start the engine. open the radiator cap and slowly fill the system with water until an almost steady stream (with very few bubbles) of water flows from the bleeder nipple. retighten the nipple, replace the cap. haul ***.

The only thing I found out was my headgasket was bad and had to replace it. Once I replaced my headgasket it never over heated again.

Thanks for all your input
After Replacing the head gasket, the thermostat and radiator, we went back to our orginal thought and replaced the water pump. It was not doing the normal thing to show you when it is busted. But it turns out it was not circulating the water. Replaced it and it has been running up and down the hills no problem.
